Mount Taranaki is a peninsula on the west coast of New Zealand's north island that extends into the Tasman Sea, between Auckland and Wellington, and is one of New Zealand's richest agricultural regions. It is a volcano in the Taranaki region of western North Island, with a peak of 2,518 meters above sea level. Because the total appearance of the Taranaki Mountains is similar to that of Mount Fuji in Japan, it is called "Mount Fuji of New Zealand". The Hollywood film The Last Samurai, which was filmed in New Zealand, used to take pictures here and pretend to refer to the Taranaki Mountains as Mount Fuji. The snow-covered Taranaki Mountains are the spirit and nature of the region. More than 50 rivers and streams originate in the mountain. There are many unique plants here too. Meanwhile, there are many stories and legends about the mountain. When the explorer Abel Tasman discovered the mountain in 1642, he said, "This is the most expensive mountain I have ever seen." In Maori, Taranaki means the "steep mountain", a name closely related to the legendary origin of the mountain. The story goes that Taranaki was closely linked to other volcanoes on the northern island (Tongariro, Ruapehu and Nauruhei). Later, he was banished to the present place for his love of his wife, a small volcano called Pihanga.
Mount Fuji is located in the new playmouth area and is shrouded in clouds all year round. This trekking route takes about 5 hours, and 90% of it is covered by stairs. There is a lake on the top to take a beautiful view of Mount Fuji with reflection.
The shape of the volcano resembles the famous Mount Fuji of Japan.
