What people are saying:

There’s a bus that’ll take you right to this piazzale. It’s one of the best places to see Florence from high up and also take a photo with a replica of Michaelangelo. Put this in your Florence list for sure!

    Basically a glorified parking lot

Yes, the view is beautiful but this is basically just a parking lot. Keep walking up to the must see San Miniato al Monte, with better views, a stunning church, fabulous gelato, and no crowds!

Introduction

Though originally intended by architect Giuseppe Poggi as a gallery to display the works of Michelangelo, today Piazzale Michelangelo is a panoramic lookout for tourists and locals alike. A sweeping view of Florence from this observation point captures the entire city: the Duomo, Forte Belvedere, Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio and more. After snapping a few photos, grab a cappuccino in the square's neoclassical-style restaurant and examine a bronze replica of The David which, along with a few other sculptures, were brought up the hill as an attempt to fulfill Poggi's original dream.
