The Three Rivers Fountain Sculpture is located at the southern end of Victoria Square, in an 18-meter-long hexagonal pool. The fountain was designed by renowned Australian sculptor John Dowie (1915-2008) born in Adelaide to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1963, and was unveiled five years later on May 28, 1968. The fountain is three-sided and represents three rivers in South Australia. The Murray River in eastern Adelaide is represented by an indigenous man holding a long winged Zhu Ying; The Wincaparlinga River in the south is represented by a European woman holding a heron, while the Torrance River in the north, which extends to the west coast, is represented by a European woman holding a black saw. At night, the fountain is more beautiful under the light.
