Great Neighbourhood
#fallishere
Bocagrande, the vibrant neighborhood of Cartagena, surpassed all my expectations and left an indelible impression. This five-star neighborhood seamlessly combines the allure of a tropical paradise with a touch of urban sophistication, creating an unparalleled experience for both locals and visitors.
First and foremost is the breathtaking beaches of Bocagrande. It vibrant culinary scene is also a food lover's dream come true. From street food vendors to upscale restaurants, the neighborhood offers an array of delectable options to satisfy any palate. I relished in the opportunity to sample the mouthwatering local dishes, including the seafood delicacies that are a specialty of the region.
Aside from its natural and culinary wonders, Bocagrande also boasts a lively and bustling atmosphere. The neighborhood's streets are lined with an assortment of shops, boutiques, and market stall. The vibrant nightlife scene further heightened my experience, with its energetic bars, clubs, and live music venues that ensured evenings were never dull.
The Largest Colonial Fortress
Built in the 17th century, El Castillo de San Felipe in Cartagena is massive, imposing and a testament to the city’s rich past and importance. As the seat of colonial power, trade and wealth, Cartagena was a constant target and this fort was meant to act as the last line of defence against overseas powers and pirates 🏴☠️ ⠀
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984, you can wander through the fortress and it’s maze of small underground tunnels or, you know, pretend to be a pirate who’s overtaken the fort and is firing up the cannons 🤷🏻♀️
Find it: Castillo de San Felipe, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

Hotel review : InterContinental Cartagena
I was warmly greeted as I arrived and the service from the staff was excellent throughout my stay . As an IHG member, I was able to get a massage upon arrival after a long trip to get there, and the Spa staff was great. The many bellhops, porters, and security staff made sure I was taken care of in my comings and goings from the hotel. As a solo traveler, I definitely felt safe there.
The hotel was clean and modern and seemed well-kept. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed.
I had breakfast daily and the buffet had a variety of pastries, fruits, juices, cereals, and hot foods, as well as an omelet station. Room service was delivered quickly with everything ordered. The cocktails were always good! The pool was clean, the area was kept tidy, and the water was a nice temperature.
When I visit Cartagena again, I will certainly stay at the Intercontinental, and suggest others do, too!
Cartagena, Columbia
Incredible 500-year-old walled city with historic 19th-century architecture and some of Colombia's best dining
Colorful Cartagena, one of the great historical Spanish cities of the Caribbean, pulses with life along the north coast of Colombia. Founded in 1533, its old walled city has seen its fortunes rise and fall through the centuries and has more recently experienced a resurgence and revitalization.
Significant restoration of the old city has resulted in once-dilapidated 16th-century buildings springing back to life as modern, yet historical hotels, world-class restaurants, and shops. Wander through the narrow city streets to see an impressive church, an open plaza with public works of art, or an eclectic shop selling that perfect souvenir.
Be sure to wander along the ancient city walls, and as you watch the sunset over the ocean, think back to what life used to be like here nearly 500 years ago.
It's easy to get to Cartagena from the United States, with daily flights from Miami and good connections through Panama City. This is the perfect destination for an exotic long weekend getaway from almost anywhere in North America

salento Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Most amazing place
I have heard of the Cocora Valley in Colombia. It is a stunning location near the small town of Salento, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and towering palm trees. The valley is also famous for its delicious coffee, making it a popular destination for travelers seeking a unique and authentic Colombian experience.
Salento, beautiful town in Colombia
Salento is absolute beauty, colourful streets, a lot of cool restaurants and amazing food
Fairy tale town Salento
Name of place 🔖: Salento, Colombia 🇨🇴
Access🚗: It’s between capital Bogota (6 hours car) and Medellín (5.5 hours car), but absolutely worth it
What’s special✨: the town is very quiet and the vibe is relaxing, even the air seems to be fresher (and often blended with the aroma of nicely brewed coffee).
The houses are colourful but all of sightly different pattern. It is almost impossible to find identical houses.

El Dorado International Airport Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Avianca Business Class BOG-GRU
#fallishere My journey in Avianca business class from BOG-GRU was marked by a blend of impressive hardware and some areas for improvement in software and catering.
The seating arrangement, in a comfortable 1-2-1 configuration with lie-flat seats, showcased excellent hardware. The lie-flat feature added a significant level of comfort, making the journey more enjoyable.
While the hardware was commendable, the software aspect left room for improvement. The overall in-flight entertainment system and service could be enhanced to align with the premium experience expected in business class.
Catering, unfortunately, fell slightly short of expectations. The offerings lacked the refinement and variety often associated with premium cabin experiences. A more robust culinary selection could elevate the overall in-flight dining experience.
Despite these considerations, the journey was an amazing experience. The comfort of lie-flat seats and the impressive hardware contributed significantly to the overall positive perception of Avianca's business class. With some adjustments to software and catering, the airline has the potential to offer a truly exceptional premium travel experience.
Lounge in Bogota airport
#fallishere
Nice and modern, but also uncomfortable and way to small.
The food is ok, but not a standard for a Gold VIP lounge. Sitting outside is way better. If you certainly stay 8 hours it might work out because of the free drinks and food. If you just have two hours just don't use it.
The showers are also modern. If you want to use the shower and don't have very short hair, don't forget to bring a hair dryer, because that doesn't exist in this lounge.
Overall still ok in my opinion.
El Dorado Lounge
#fallishere
It's very appealing to the eyes however not the best Lounge for sure.
I have priority pass, however You have to pay 11 USD for a "buffet", which is served by their staff and only once, you cannot use it again, this was strange. Food options are very every limited and the taste was just ok
The included snack bar is also quite limited, and again, served by their staff, you cannot choose your fruits or even tea/coffee without their staff giving it to you .
The lounge is super long and spread out, which at least gives you the chance to decide where you want to be.
It was ok, but definitely had higher expectations for it.
Alight from plane at Bogota

Great to be at Colombia . Alighting from the plane and saw an Avianca Flight departing

Guatape Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Rainbow 🌈 Colombian Town Guatape
Name of place📝: Guatape in Colombia 🇨🇴
Access📍: two-hour bus ride from Medellín, one of the most famous Colombian cities where Pablo Escobar lived in
What’s special ✨: if you like a fairy tale style house, here is where you can find many of them - all in different bright colours and none of them are exactly the same. 🏡
There are plenty of local Colombian cafes where you can enjoy a cup of coffee ☕️
Also many hand-made mochillas (Colombian bags) which are full of Latino flavour. 🌈

Colourful Colombian City Guatape
Name of place🔖: Guatape
Nearest city🗺️: Medellín, Colombia
Access 🚌: there are plenty of local tours from Medellin to take you to this small town 1.5 hour drive away. You can take a bus or if you have a group you can book a private car
What’s special ✨ apart from a rock-like hill that attracts a lot of climbers to go up to see the stunning view, this town is also known for being very colourful with happy Latino music playing everywhere.
Colombia is just the friendliest and happiest country I’ve been to (among 50+ of them). I’d highly recommend this place.
#Guatape #medellin #Colombia #latinamerica #colourful
Beautiful town near Medellín
#fallishere
Guatapé is very colorful, the people are very humble. The place lives off tourism. You won't find modern things in most of the city. However, the locals are usually people who left the city to study and returned, or people who have spent their entire lives getting to know their town and the stories.
The place is small and everyone knows each other. Tourism being the main source of income, it is a safe place for any tourist.
paradise is where you make it

Salt Cathedral Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Stunning church inside a salt mine!
Country 🗺️: Colombia 🇨🇴
Name📝: The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá
Address📍: Parque De La Sal, Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia
Opening hours 🕰️: 0900-1800 Monday to Sunday
Famous for✨ its unique location - deep under a mine! The church is over 100 metre down the mine. You need to wear a helmet all the way and there are stops for you to check if you feel fine.
There are many large crosses and statues of Jesus and angels inside the church, with lighting of different colours to highlight the beauty of different parts. Really amazing experience!

Salt Cathedral in Colombia!
Amazing! Everyone should visit! Amazing scenery!
Friendly staff also!
Stunning cathedral deep inside a mine!
Name of place🔖: Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira
City: Bogota, Colombia 🇨🇴
What’s special ✨: the entrance of this cathedral is actually on a hill so you need to take a taxi or bus to get there. When you arrive, there’s a tour guide to give you background information about the mine, why there is a church inside (basically there are too many accidents inside mines in general so people want God’s presence in the mine with the miners - Colombia is a Catholic country).
The scale, architecture and decoration of the cathedral inside are eye-opening. It can blow people away and there are definitely many instagram photo spots!

Salt Cathedral: The world's largest underground salt mine cathedral, located in the mountain town of Zipaquirá about 48 kilometers from Bogotá, is known as the "architectural gem of Colombia" and the "first wonder of Colombia".
Lake Guatavita: a small body of water located in the crater of a volcano surrounded by forests in the northeast, said to be the center of the "Golden Kingdom" and one of the "Six Great Treasures of the World". From afar, the emerald green Lake Guatavita looks like a green gemstone embedded among the surrounding mountains.
Station 2: Bogota
The Monserrate Mountain in the north of the city: there is a white church on the top of the mountain, which can be climbed on foot or by cable car. Almost all tourists come here to see the panoramic view of Bogotá.
