Berzona is a tiny, atmospheric village in the Onsernone Valley of Ticino, in southern Switzerland. Unlike Lucerne or Zermatt, Berzona is not a major tourist destination—it’s a quiet Alpine village known for stone houses, forested mountains, narrow lanes and traditional Ticinese architecture.

Berzona has an old-world character, with traditional stone and plaster houses, small lanes and steep mountain slopes surrounding it. The village is part of the municipality of Onsernone and lies in a remote, beautiful valley northwest of Locarno.

The setting is especially peaceful: instead of large hotels and busy streets, you’ll find woods, mountains, old houses and the sound of streams.

Berzona is strongly associated with the Swiss writer Max Frisch, who lived here for periods of his life. His presence helped give the village a place in Swiss literary and cultural history.
