Bich Dong Pagoda (Tam Cốc Bích động) is a three-tiered ancient pagoda nestled into a mountainside in Tam Coc, northern Vietnam. The cluster of cave temples is surrounded by a bed of water and impressive water lilies that will have you in awe when you arrive.
Getting around Tam Coc is really simple as it’s very easy to rent a bicycle or a scooter from your choice of half a dozen rental shops in the center of Ninh Binh town.
It’s approximately a 5-minute ride on a scooter from the town center to reach Bich Dong Pagoda. Scooter rental costs around 100,000 VND per day and bicycle costs half the price.
The entrance to Tam Cốc Bích động is absolutely beautiful and the most photogenic spot at this location. You will see an arched concrete walkway that stretches over the water lilies and makes its way through an impressive temple gateway and into the mountains.
There are around 100 steps to reach the top of the mountain and this is where Bich Dong Pagoda can be found.
The trail cuts through a large cave in the mountain where looming statues and small bats appear behind the haze of incense.
When you reach the top of the stairs, you’ll be welcomed with a stunning view out of the valley of the distant mountain peaks and vast rice fields.
Here is the entrance to the Bich Dong pagodas in the Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam. Not only is it remarkably beautiful, but it is also rich in history and culture. In the early 18th century, the two monks Tri Kien and Tri The built the Ha Pagoda, the Trung Pagoda, and the Thuong Pagoda, situated respectively at the foot of the mountain, in the middle of the mountain, and on the top of the mountain. The one who wants to see them will have to take the stairs connecting the three pagodas.
In front of the Hoa Lư Temple area, we are presented with views of the river and small Vietnamese boats with a high background of karst hills typical of mainland China.
Going inside a little bit, we could see a large area like a square on the outskirts of which there were gentlemen who rented out buffalo as the object of the photo. I don't know why that's the case, I didn't even ask.
it is said that Hoa Lư was once the seat of the Vietnamese government. In this area there are Nhat Tru Pagoda and 2 temples dedicated to warlords who have served in Vietnam, namely inh Tiên Hoàng and Lê i Hành.
The two commanders became famous for their actions against several Chinese soldiers from the Song Dynasty, defeating them and separating themselves from China. They then crowned themselves kings of their new country, i Cồ Việt, modern North Vietnam.
In the 10th century, Hoa Lư was the capital of i Cồ Việt which was the territory of the Kinh dynasty which constitutes 90% of today's Vietnamese. Whereas Central & South Vietnam used to be included in the territory of the Champa Kingdom, it contained people who were influenced by the Indian Hindu kingdom and worshiped Shiva. Although Champa was eventually wiped out by the Viets, racial tensions between north & south still persist to this day. The Vietnam War between the north & south was a power struggle for control of Vietnam in the 1960s – 1970s and ended the war with America and the defeat of the south. The Kinh people & the northern kingdom of i Cồ Việt effectively became a vassal state of China & represented the southernmost province of China by inheriting the culture, religion and English language.
Today Hoa Lư is no longer a place for anti-Chinese people to gather but as a stop for a trip to Tam Coc.

Trang An consists of a stunning collection of lush limestone mountains, rainforest lands, valleys, caves under the mountain and the historic site of Hoa Lu. There are also several temples and pagodas that you can visit here. You will feel as if you are lost in nirvana.
This is where Vietnam's old capital, Hoa Lu, was located in the 10th and 11th centuries. At that time this collection of limestone mountains became the perfect fortress to ward off royal enemies. History says the Chinese empire tried to control Vietnam by attacking the capital of Hoa Lu in Trang An. However, due to its unique location and surrounded by limestone mountains, China's efforts failed.
with all its natural beauty and historical value, it is appropriate that Trang An was made one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2014. In addition, Trang An is also called an outdoor geological museum because the collection of limestone mountains here has existed since 2500 years ago.
