Looking for your next getaway? Check out my adventure in Zell am See, Austria and Sousse, Tunisia — two totally different vibes that both seriously deliver on scenery and culture 🌍🔥 Zell am See is all about the lakeside chill and snow-capped peaks, while Sousse brings the history and Mediterranean flavor every traveler dreams of.
Top Spots to Visit
Zell am See
1. Lake Zell: Stroll the lakeside promenade, hire a paddleboat, or snap those unreal Instagram shots. Address: Esplanade, 5700 Zell am See. Open all day.
2. Schmittenhöhe: Grab the cable car (Schmittenstraße 119, 5700 Zell am See) for panoramic mountain views and hiking trails. First ride up: 8:30 am.
3. Old Town: Wander cobblestone streets, discover local cafés, and try apple strudel at Traube Café (Kirchenplatz 6).
Sousse
1. Medina of Sousse: This UNESCO site is an absolute must. Address: Rue de la Medina. Best in early morning — fewer crowds, more magic!
2. Ribat of Sousse: Climb the tower for sea views. Opening: 8 am–6 pm. Address: Rue Ribat.
3. Sousse Archaeological Museum: Dive into Tunisia’s ancient past. Address: Boulevard Maréchal Tito, opens at 9 am.
Pro Travel Tips
– In Zell am See, rent a bike to circle the lake (super easy terrain!).
– Sousse’s medina is perfect for bargain hunting, but remember to haggle and carry small cash.
– Weather hack: Layer up in Zell am See, but pack light breathable clothes for Sousse.
Getting Around
Both towns have reliable local buses. For Zell am See, trains from Salzburg are frequent and scenic. In Sousse, use taxis — quick and budget-friendly.
Food to Try
– Zell am See: Local trout at Restaurant Kupferkessel (Brucker Bundesstraße 18).
– Sousse: Brik (crispy pastry) at Café Sidi Bou Said (inside Medina).

Top Spots to Visit in Sousse (And a Few Tips You Need!)
1. Medina of Sousse
Get lost in winding alleys, hunt for hand-painted ceramics, and don’t forget the rooftop views from the Ribat fortress (Rue Remada, open 8am–7pm). Go early for crowd-free exploring.
2. Sousse Archaeological Museum
A must for history nerds! Set inside the Kasbah, the mosaics here are mind-blowing (BP53, open 9am–5pm). I scored extra context by downloading an audio guide before visiting.
3. Port El Kantaoui
Just 15 minutes north, this marina is all white walls, blue doors, and palm trees—great people watching. Ideal for a lazy lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.
4. Boujaffar Beach
Sunbathe like a local! There’s plenty of room for your towel and cheap cafés selling mint tea and brik (Tunisian egg pastry) steps from the shore.
Navigation hack: Getting around Sousse is cheapest with *louages* (shared taxis) and they’re shockingly efficient! For longer trips, trains to Monastir or Mahdia are fast and scenic.
Where (& What) to Eat:
Dig into *couscous poisson*—you'll find the best at Restaurant du Peuple (Ave. Hedi Chaker), nothing fancy, just authentic. For a late brew, local cafés along Ave. Habib Bourguiba pulse till midnight.
Essential Info:
Cash is king; most places won’t take cards. June–September gets hot and busy—spring and fall were just right for me. No visa required for short tourist stays if you’re from the EU/US.
