Wild Encounters and Breezy Bliss in Zanzibar 🌴🐒🌊
Dive into a day of contrasts, from lush forests filled with playful monkeys to powder-soft sands and brilliant blue water - this is the best combo of Zanzibar’s wild heart and laid-back east coast!
Start off early at Jozani Forest (open 07:30-17:00). Walk the wooden boardwalks under towering trees (you get a guide) while searching for the iconic red colobus monkeys - try snapping them chilling among green leaves, especially around midday when they’re most active. Take the mangrove trail for peaceful nature shots by riverside pools. Beware the mosquitoes - long sleeves and natural repellents are lifesavers in the thicker forest shade. Stay with your guide for safety; some areas are off-limits for good reason!
From forest to coast, head down to Jambiani Beach. The vibe instantly shifts - think coconut palms, fishing boats, and turquoise waters. Must-do: walk the beach during low tide to watch locals gather seaweed and spot crabs in tidal pools. The pastel sunsets here are unreal, so linger for a golden-hour photo shoot (best angle: capture fishing dhows silhouetted against the pink-orange sky). Watch out for uneven sand and sharp shells - flip flops are handy but barefoot works if you walk slowly.
Other highlights:
- Stone Town is unique (they even have the Freddie Mercury Museum as he was born there);
- visit one of the spice farms or one of the natural spas (with pools of fresh water).
