Jahiri Castle is the largest castle in the UAE. The castle was built in 1891 and completed in 1898. It is the Royal Summer House. After the death of Sheikh Zayed I in 1909, his eldest son Sheikh Khalifa and his family continued to live in the castle. In the early 1950s, when the British entered Al Ain, the castle was requisitioned as a base for British troops. Around the castle, barracks and other buildings were built, which expanded the castle to its current size.
