Vatnajökull National Park is the largest glacier in Europe and the third largest in the world, second only to the Antarctic and Greenland glaciers. It is also the filming location of the famous movie "Interstellar". Being there in person is truly surreal, and can only be described as mind-blowing. The main feature of Vatnajökull National Park is the diverse scenery formed by the combined effects of rivers, glaciers, volcanoes, and geothermal activity. In the park, you can also see various birds, Arctic foxes, and even reindeer. It is a great place to enjoy nature. Vatnajökull National Park includes the entire Vatnajökull glacier and its vast surrounding areas. The easiest way to visit is to take the Route 1 along the way to see Svartifoss waterfall, glacier lakes, diamond beaches, and more. If you want to visit the northern or western parts of the glacier, you need to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle, and it is only passable in the summer. In "Game of Thrones", most of the scenes beyond the Wall and north of the Wall were filmed in Vatnajökull National Park, including the iconic location of the Wall. Visitors to Vatnajökull Glacier almost always try glacier hiking, admiring the bizarre glacier structures and the glacier texture mixed with volcanic ash. Under the guidance of professional guides, visitors need to wear professional climbing shoes and equip themselves with ice claws, ice axes and other tools. This is because there are many large cracks and deep holes on the surface of the glacier, and a slight mistake can lead to falling into them. In addition to the endless glacier, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (also known as Jökulsárlón Lake) at the southern end of Vatnajökull National Park is also one of the must-visit attractions for tourists. and my last treat for ice was at #vatnajökull where i had my unforgettable glacier hike on Iceland's largest glacier and Europe's largest glacier mass (area of roughly 8300 sq. km). I was also introduced to using crampon & ice axe for the first time. My advice, to save all the hassle just hop on the tour bus from Reykjavik & they'll bring you to the Skaftafell entrance. The Vatna Glacier is Iceland's largest glacier and the largest glacier in Europe, the third largest glacier in the world. After arriving at the camp on foot, the staff will send everyone equipment, crampons, hail, helmets, and then take the bus to the place to hike. After getting off at , the car is divided into several teams, each team has a different team leader. The glaciers often rain, and when there are sunny days, the weather outside is not the same as the weather on the glaciers. Therefore, the glacier raincoats must be brought on, and it is better to wear the jacket. When you get on the glacier, the team leader will guide you through the crampons, and the crampons will be tied to the shoes. Hiking glaciers must wear crampons, otherwise the ice will be very slippery. The route of each team on the glacier is different. The hiking glacier has no requirements for the hiking experience. The difficulty coefficient is very low. Just wear the crampons and follow the leader's footsteps on the ice and step on each step. Just fine. Our hiking route is the first experience, there is no deep glaciers, so it won't be too tired, going back and forth for almost two hours.
