Sophie's trip to Kyushu, Japan | Terakoya Honpo Terakoya Honpo is an old shop specializing in senbei rice crackers. It is located all over Japan. This time we went to the shop in Mamedamachi, an old street in Hita City, Kyushu. I didn't expect that a piece of senbei could have so many flavors, including sesame, shichimi powder (spicy), seaweed, yuzu, etc. Each piece is about 120 to 150 yen, about 7 to 9 yuan. The size of each piece is much larger than Want Want Senbei. I bought the Kyushu Yufuin yuzu pepper flavor. It was freshly baked, very hot and fresh. I broke off a small piece and it had a strong rice aroma and was hard and crispy. The store owner said that senbei is a mixture of rice and glutinous rice baked together, and is particularly crispy and fragrant. If you like it, you can buy some as a souvenir. Take a stroll in the quiet old street of Mameda-cho with a piece of senbei in hand, watch the sunset and eat senbei, this is how a foodie’s trip should be.
