The traditional afternoon tea here is well-known in Shanghai. The super luxurious lobby bar, antique bookshelves, and British-style interior decoration really add points to the afternoon tea environment here. There are not many seats for afternoon tea, so if you want to have afternoon tea, it is best to book in advance. All the teas at Ritz-Carlton are from Singapore's luxury tea brand TWG. This time we went to participate in the tea art course of Shanghai Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel and TWG, spending two hours drinking TWG tea and eating snacks. We tasted about 10 kinds of TWG tea, including White Peony Tea, Shengyu Steamed Green Tea, Tieguanyin Tea, Lu'an Guapian Tea, Shengyu Pu'er Tea, Alphonso Black Tea, Selected Jasmine Tea, Bourbon Vanilla South African Tea, Midsummer Crimson South African Tea and 1837 Black Tea. Most of the guests who come to the tea art course usually have the habit of drinking tea, but they are all fixed to one or two kinds of tea. Some like Pu'er, some like Tieguanyin, and some like Dahongpao. They drank ten kinds of tea at once, and the friends were a little flustered. Each taste was good and it was difficult to choose. After drinking more than ten kinds of tea, they also changed several tea cups, each of which looked good. The white peony tea is fresh and elegant, the Shengyu steamed green tea has a reserved taste, the Tieguanyin tea is strong and lasting, the Lu'an melon tea is sweet with flowers, the Shengyu Pu'er tea is soft with earthy fragrance, the Alphonso black tea is accompanied by mango and fruit flowers, the latter jasmine tea is elegant and noble, the Bourbon vanilla South African tea is also liked by children, the midsummer crimson South African tea hides a hint of sweetness, and the 1837 black tea lingers with the aroma of berries, fennel and caramel, which is an eternal classic. TWG tea master Jules Samson introduced different teas to us and what kind of snacks are suitable for this tea. Some are suitable for salty food, and some are suitable for sweet food. Unfortunately, my brain capacity is not big enough, and I can't remember the specific pairings, but I remember that they are all delicious. Afternoon tea has three layers in total. The salty food includes: smoked salmon mille-feuille, turkey breast, tuna salad and cucumber, smoked salmon puffs & cream cheese, tomato salsa tart & fig balsamic vinegar pearls, tender fried scallops with black fish roe macarons, orange pickled foie gras, crab meat and passion fruit jelly, black truffle duck salad. Desserts include: Valrhona Dus 32[%] chocolate apricot tart, Valrhona Caribbean 66[%] chocolate cranberry, pineapple white chocolate Chantilly, chocolate lemon cream, Najivana Earl Chocolate Mousse, Na Hazelnut Chocolate Coffee, chocolate and original scones & rose pickled cranberry jam and heavy cream. Although you may only like one or two kinds of tea, TWG provides more choices and blends teas of different flavors, giving people more reasons to like drinking tea. You can enjoy TWG afternoon tea at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.
