About Gaoyou

Gaoyou City is located in the northern part of Jiangsu Province, along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and on the banks of Gaoyou Lake. It was a mail post during the Han and Tang dynasties. Gaoyou is a famous historical and cultural city in Jiangsu Province, that was recorded in the writings of Marco Polo. Gaoyou has many attractions that are worth visiting, such as Yucheng Postal Stop, Zhenguo Temple Tower, and Lingtang Mosque. There are also cultural attractions such as the Wang Zengqi Literature Museum, Chinese Duck Culture Museum, and Chinese Philatelic Museum.

The history of the city has a very long history. In the early days, Qin Wang’s government established a high platform and set up a postal pavilion. The place was named Gaoyou. Only Gaoyou, which linked its name to the postal service in many counties and cities across the country. The existing Yucheng Postal Stop was built in the 8th year of Ming Hongwu (1375). It is now a large-scale, well-preserved ancient station in the country and is now a postal museum in China.

The Wenyoutai was built during the Taiping Xingguo Period of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is a high-rising platform structure that offers panoramic views to those that climb to the top. There is famous calligraphy on the four walls of Wenyoutai, giving it high artistic value. To the west are four shrines built during the Ming Dynasty. There are also museums to both the east and west, providing a window for understanding the history and culture of Gaoyou City. Together with the Zhenguo Temple Tower in the west of the city, and the Jingtu Temple Tower and Cha Pavilion in the east of the city, they form a full set of simple but beautiful triangular structures.

Gaoyou Lake Reed Wetland Park is found on the bank of Gaoyou Lake in Jieshou Town, Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province. It mainly consists of a comprehensive service area, a water culture area, and a science education display area. The core area also includes the lake heart hotel, leisure club, special dining and entertainment facilities such as tourist interaction, fisherman style, water surfing and gradually forming an ecosystem combining "flying plate culture, waterfront entertainment, fishing village culture, health and leisure, wetland science education". It is a good tourist scenic area. Therefore, it has been commended as a "natural oxygen bar".

Zhenguo Temple, located on the island on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, is where the Tang Emperor Xizong's brother performed Zen meditation after he saw through the material world. After the master in the temple died, leaving Buddhist relics, the Emperor Xizong funded to reconstruct the temple and granted it the name "Zhenguo Zen Temple." He also built a white pagoda to enshrine the master's relics. Generations later, the original temple no longer exists except for the pagoda, which is an important antique treasure. The ancient towering pagoda stands on the island and looks even more beautiful in the sunset.
