Basum Tso in Tibet | A little Switzerland hidden in Tibet
"Basum Tso" also known as Cuogao Lake🌊, in Tibetan means "green water". The lake is at an altitude of 3480 meters, located 36 kilometers from Bahe Town, Gongbujiangda County, in the upper reaches of the Bahe River in the high mountain valley, it is a famous sacred lake and holy land of the Red Sect. In August 2017, it became the first natural scenic 5A tourist area in Tibet.
🎡 Attractions:
1⃣ Island in the heart of Basum Tso
A small island in the middle of Basum Tso, connected to the land by a floating bridge. Tourists can walk up via this bridge or take a small boat. Legend has it that the island is a "hollow island", i.e., it is not connected to the lake bottom and floats on the lake. Although it is just a legend, it makes people feel the magic of nature.
2⃣ Cuozong Gongba Temple
Located on the island in the lake, it is a famous Red Sect Nyingma temple in Tibet, built in the late Tang Dynasty, with a history of more than 1500 years. There is a peach and pine tree in the south of the temple. In spring, the peach blossoms and green pines contrast each other, which is very beautiful.
3⃣ Jieba Village
At the foot of the scenic area of Basum Tso, there is an ancient village hidden -- Jieba Village, located deep in the scenic area in Cuogao Township. Only when you explore deep into the scenic area, you will find a paradise at the end of the lake.
4⃣ Xinco (very beautiful, worth a visit)✨
Xinco is an extended scenic spot inside Basum Tso, very beautiful, suitable for hiking, 6 kilometers, about 3 hours. Xinco is quite far from Basum Tso, about 20~30 kilometers, and the road conditions are poor.
🎈 Admission: 115 yuan/person, sightseeing car 50 yuan/person
🎈 Opening hours of the scenic area:
3.15-10.15, 8:30--20:30
10.16-next year 3.14, 9:30-19:30
🚘 Transportation: Self-driving or group tour
You can also take a train from Lhasa to Nyingchi, and then take a bus from Nyingchi City Passenger Transport Center to Basum Tso, about 120 kilometers, ticket price 62 yuan, journey 2-2.5 hours
🏠 Food and accommodation: Basum Tso has developed into a relatively mature tourist resort in recent years, with convenient food and accommodation. The prices in the restaurants in the scenic area are relatively high, and the sanitary conditions are general
🌟 Best viewing season: Spring, Autumn.
In spring, Basum Tso will present a charming blue, as if it were the blue tears of Nyenchen Tanglha. If you also like blue, why not go and see Basum Tso in spring!
Every autumn, when the air is crisp and clear, the forest is dyed and the lake water is pure and clear.
Super real Songzanlin (Basongtso Store)
1, The hardware is impeccable, the room has a smart toilet, electric towel rack, projector, ambient night light (it's the most reasonable lighting design in the hotels I've stayed in recently), but the standard room bed is tiny! 1.2m X 1.8m, isn't it impossible for tall people to stretch their legs?
2, Some thoughtful little things, goodnight drink (in a thermos), prepared a variety of drinks coffee and so on that you can make yourself
3, The scenery is stunning, the swimming pool under the snow mountain, the restaurant with a 270-degree view, the dock where you can sail on the lake, and the horse farm and so on, the soon-to-open Ancestor Bird, it's only a matter of time before it becomes a stop on the journey rather than a night at a hotel
4, Food, dinner is not bad, ordered mushroom stewed rice and vegetables and so on, apart from being expensive there is no problem, breakfast is very rich and delicious, afternoon tea is a bit perfunctory, probably considering that not many guests eat it
5, Service, the biggest complaint this time, the night before they said it was quite good, we checked in very late and didn't get afternoon tea, the room can be delayed until 2 o'clock to check out, if we leave early they can help us pack, breakfast until 10 o'clock and so on, the next morning, they first called to urge us to check out at 11 o'clock, because there are new guests booked? We disagreed, then said that afternoon tea can't be packed, only dine in, and said that breakfast is only until 9 o'clock, our communication process also said that we are very difficult to communicate, can't understand a bit.
Above, can experience, encounter a good manager may have a better experience.
I have a preference for the spring in Linzhi
There are two truly beautiful Shangri-Las in the world; one is in the heart, and the other is in Tibet.
March in Linzhi belongs exclusively to the romantic fairy tale of Tibet, of course, it must be paired with the blooming peach blossoms of the Z fairy.
SOON every year from March 15th to April 15th,
the entire Linzhi is immersed in the splendid sea of peach blossoms. The peach blossoms under Mount Namjagbarwa are about to bloom.
Gala Village and Kasimu Village are the best viewing spots,
where you can see the idyllic scenery complemented by peach blossoms, snow-capped mountains, and lakes!
The scenic area ticket is 150, valid for 3 days.
To enter the scenic area, you need to take a shuttle bus, with two routes, each charging 90 for a round trip: one goes to the Grand Canyon Hot Springs, stopping at Dadu Card ruins, Love Tree, and Namjagbarwa Peak viewing platform along the way. The other goes to Suosong Village. From Suosong Village, you can get a fuller view of Mount Namjagbarwa, which is even more beautiful with the peach blossoms.
Self-driving itinerary reference

Basum Tso Lake Heart Island
After the first sentence, the evergreen shores of Basum Tso Lake are adorned with peach blossoms, and the Tsodzong Gompa Monastery, which has a history of 1500 years, is a place of faith in the hearts of the locals.
Crossing the floating bridge, on the island in the heart of the lake, there is a pine and peach tree intertwined inside the Tsodzong Monastery, where in spring, the peach blossoms and green pines complement each other, creating a particularly harmonious scene.

Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
The Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel is just too photogenic
The Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel is just too photogenic, including dining and accommodation experiences.
I stayed at the Songzan Basongtso Linka Hotel for two nights. I arrived at the hotel around six o'clock in the afternoon on the first day, where the welcome staff presented us with Hada and highland barley wine. After checking in, I went back to my room to take a few quick photos before heading to the backyard by the lake to build a Mani stone pile.
The next day was sunny, and in the morning, I went hiking at New Tso, followed by a visit to the Cuo Gao village. I got back to the hotel quite early and took more photos inside the hotel, where every step revealed a beautiful scene. In the evening, I even saw the golden rays of the sunset on the mountain.
Regarding dining, the breakfast options were quite diverse, similar to other Songzan hotels. For dinner on the first day, I had stir-fried dishes, which were mediocre in taste. I ordered twice-cooked pork with pickled vegetables, which was expensive and not tasty, with the pork being too fatty. The beef buns were good, with a crispy crust and quite delicious. On the second night, I had a sauerkraut pork knuckle hotpot, which was fairly tasty, and the portion was so large that two people couldn't finish it. The highland barley cake with honey was also quite delicious. See photos 13, 14.
Regarding the room, the location was excellent, with a view of the snow-capped mountains from inside the room. There was a projector in the room, which was nice for watching shows at night. The only downside was that the toilet took too long to refill after flushing.
Other amenities included a free nightly bedtime drink, similar to other Songzan hotels. There was also a free afternoon tea available every day from two to four-thirty.
Songzan Basongtso Linka Check-in at the tenth Songzan Hotel
At an altitude of 3480m, it is located in the historic Jieba Village, where villagers still retain the living traditions of the Gongbo Tibetan people.
The hotel is adjacent to the Basongtso Lake, where the emerald-like waters reflect snow-capped mountains, forests, glaciers, and grasslands. The varying shades of green ripple out, connecting with the sky and distant mountains.
If you come to Tibet, be sure to stay a night at the Songtsam Hotel
Our stay at the Songtsam Basongtso Linka Hotel, located in Jieba Village within the Basongtso scenic area, was very enjoyable from the first experience; unfortunately, when we later went to Suosong Village, we were short on funds and only had a meal at the Songtsam Namchabarwa store, without the chance to stay.
The environment: The hotel is secluded in its own corner, with an excellent viewing spot just out the back door, offering a more beautiful angle than the central scenic area of Basongtso Lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
The facilities: It has the feel of a resort, with full-length sliding glass doors that can be opened, wooden furniture decorations, and room locks made of copper keys, which are very tactile.
Breakfast: The variety is not particularly rich, but it is very tasty.
Service: One thing I really like about Songtsam is the staff's sense of pride and identification with Songtsam's corporate culture. The gentleman who received us at the front desk introduced us to Songtsam's philosophy and culture. He has worked in five Songtsam hotels and his love for the company was evident when he spoke about Songtsam. A hotel that can truly win the hearts of its employees makes us involuntarily full of good feelings towards Songtsam.
Our butler, Zhaxi Yangzong, was a young girl who looked even younger than us, but she was very attentive from check-in, dining, to check-out
The shuttle bus boy is always enthusiastic and smiling, with timely service.
All the staff are very good👍
The snow view of Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel is the ceiling of the wild luxury hotel
This is my second stay at the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel in Tibet's 5A scenic area. The hotel is located next to a lake where the snow from the sacred mountain called Burning Flame and Throne melts. Basongcuo is a sacred lake in the hearts of Tibetans. The emerald-like lake reflects the snow mountain. Even in the cold winter, the sacred lake of Basongcuo does not freeze, and the snow mountain is even more beautiful and majestic. The Senpu glacier grassland also nourishes the beautiful village.
The Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel, which started trial operation in July 23 years ago, is the latest hotel opened by Songzan. It took 8 years to build. In the series of Songzan hotels, the hotels called Linka are larger in area, have more rooms, and have more complete facilities. The Tibetan word for Linka means a family picnic.
Just like the Songzan Linka Hotel in Shangri-La, Songzan Basongcuo Linka has more than 130 rooms and suites. The facilities are very complete, including outdoor swimming pool, gym, western restaurant, coffee shop, bar, boutique shop, outdoor camp, etc.
Because the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel is located in the Basongcuo scenic area, no matter whether you are in the room or in the hotel lobby, restaurant, or by the pool, you can see the full view. On the second day of our stay, it started to snow. When we got up the next morning, the whole hotel was covered with snow, which was very beautiful.
The hotel is new and has very complete facilities. The breakfast is very rich, and there are many choices for lunch and dinner. It can be said to be a food paradise. In addition, this time the hotel arranged for us to go to the new scenic area for forest hiking and shooting experience in Zalagou scenic area. The hotel can also experience off-road electric motorcycles, which feels super cool. I will introduce it later.
In short, the Songzan Basongcuo Linka Hotel in winter is definitely the ceiling of the snow view wild luxury hotel. Every shot is a big picture...

Xincuo Lake Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
The secluded wonderland - Xin Cuo
Xin Cuo is a lake within Basong Cuo, which has been developed for many years and is known as the 'Eastern Switzerland'. Xin Cuo, known to few, requires about three hours of hiking. 'Xin' in Tibetan means 'wood, tree', hence Xin Cuo refers to a lake shaped like a fallen tree. It is also said that the name 'Xin Cuo' means 'newly discovered lake'.
Following the winding path, with snow-capped mountains as companions, rivers flowing, flowers blooming in the cracks, cattle and sheep resting by the lake, one can glimpse the mysterious lake hidden in the forest.

I hope this introduction can stimulate your passion for travel, and let you have an unforgettable trip to Nyingchi Xincuo this winter. 🌄🧣
Xin Cuo - A serene place where you can hear your own heartbeat
Step by step, we have come to Xin Cuo, a nearly pristine holy lake.
Around the holy lake, a small village, a few herding families, and a dozen yaks.
The grassland under your feet, the blue sky above your head, the Tibetan tents nearby and the snow-capped mountains in the distance, a series of oil paintings are presented before your eyes.
The most intoxicating thing for me is the pristine nature and simple people here, and the silence that can only be broken by a few bird calls.
Here I really heard my heartbeat! If you don't believe it, you can try it too...
Tibet's new measure: Take the bumpiest cannonball road, be the freest wild person
Is it worth an average cost of 325 yuan for a 3-hour round trip on a cannonball road, full of pits that make you doubt life and bumps that make your brain shake, and 2 hours of play?
When going to Basongtso, I was always struggling whether to go to Xinco or not, after all, the small car we rented was not suitable for this kind of cannonball road. Later, my companions and I thought, how many times can we come to Tibet, Linzhi, and Basongtso in our lives, why not go and see it! So we contacted the local villagers' car through the owner of the homestay, and went to Xinco with bumps.
Chartered car: 500💰
Sanitation fee: 10💰/person
Beach car: 200💰/hour
We left the homestay in Jieba Village at 9:30 and arrived at the entrance of Xinco after about 1.5 hours of bouncing. Then we need to walk across the bridge and walk a few hundred meters to get to the beach car rental point.
We were lucky when we went, and two cars came back in a few minutes, and we bought 2 hours of car and set off.
If you don't stop, it will take about twenty minutes to drive to the deepest part of Xinco Lake, and it will be enough to go back and forth within 1 hour, but the time is not enough and you can't stroll around. Even if you rent for 2 hours, it's still in a hurry and you can't play and take pictures well. Actually, it feels okay to walk, it won't be particularly tired.
The photos I like the most are taken with a telephoto lens, and the sense of space compression makes people feel that the snow mountain is right in front of them.
Personally, I think the deepest part of Xinco Lake is quite ordinary, and Basongtso is not bad at all, but the scenery along the way is rich, and it's easy to take life photos, which is also pretty good!

Niyang River Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Nyingchi: A Peach Blossom Paradise on the Snowy Plateau
Nyingchi is known as the 'Jiangnan of Tibet', hiding more than 500 acres of the world's largest wild peach blossom colony, stretching along the Nyang River all the way to the snow-capped mountains of Nyingchi, a pink sea of flowers that extends for hundreds of miles!
Spring Romance in Flower Viewing: The Dreamy Wonderland of Nyingchi
Spring in Nyingchi is hailed as the 'Jiangnan on the Roof of the World', where the city is poetically and dreamily adorned in pink peach blossoms! Flower viewing in Nyingchi during spring is a romantic encounter with peach blossoms, so beautiful that it makes you linger and forget to return!
A Tibetan-style resort in the urban area of Nyingchi offers an elegant environment and complete facilities. Not only can you experience the warm hospitality of the Tibetan people, but you can also taste authentic Tibetan cuisine, such as butter tea and highland barley wine. At night, you can admire the starry dreamy night sky from the resort's terrace, feeling the tranquility and mystery of the plateau.
The wild peach groves by the Nyang River are pleasing to the eye with their flourishing blossoms, creating a beautiful tapestry against the azure sky, pristine snow-capped mountains, and the jade-like Nyang River. Strolling along the riverbank, admiring the gorgeous peach blossoms while listening to the flowing river, feels like being in a fairyland.
Tibet is back, travel guide for the Linzhi Lai Gu line
🏆Route section:
The first day: Depart from Lhasa → Niyang River Wetland Fairyland → Magnificent spectacle of Namjagbarwa Peak → Arrive at Suosong Village (For friends who suffer from altitude sickness on higher altitude sections, please prepare glucose or corresponding medicines in advance. The accommodation experience in Suosong Village is decent, not as luxurious as in the city, but has its own charm. Pay attention to keeping warm in winter and avoid bathing to prevent catching a cold! Thermometer💪Glacier medicine box)
The second day: Explore the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon → Check in at the Buddha Palm Sand Dune (The backstory is very interesting, a good place for taking photos, the scenery is relatively ordinary but still a sight to see) → Leisurely travel to Bomi
The third day: Depart from Bomi → Ranwu Lake like a poetic painting → Visit the mysterious and spectacular Laigu Glacier (Getting up early is wise, as the wind gets stronger and colder after noon, you can choose to ride a horse or hike for the adventure, Laigu Glacier is definitely a visual feast! Snowy mountains and glaciers🐎)
The fourth day: Depart from Bomi again → Pass by the tranquil hometown lake → Challenge the 4700 meters high Sejila Mountain (Occasionally encounter cute monkeys on the mountain top, remember to bring some snacks to feed them; if you encounter a snowy landscape, it is an excellent opportunity for photography, and with great luck, you may even have a distant view of Namjagbarwa Peak! Snowy mountains monkey group snowflakes❄️)
The fifth day: Depart from Linzhi → Enjoy a trip to Basong Lake (Regrettably did not reach the new lake, which is hidden deep in Basong Lake, requiring another hour's drive, the ticket is free, only a 10 yuan sanitation fee is charged, you can walk or ride a motorcycle, immerse yourself in the fresh air and lush greenery, forest oxygen bar🌿)
🌡️Temperature tip: The temperature in February is still acceptable, except for the Laigu Glacier which is colder, other places are fine to cope with.
🌸March Peach Blossom Festival reminder: Friends who go to Linzhi to enjoy the Peach Blossom Festival in March, please note that the cost may be slightly higher, the leader revealed that accommodation is extremely tight, be sure to book hotels in advance. On 3.26, the Holy Elephant Gate will open, each season has its beauty, and the scenery along the way is also a captivating painting!
🚗Travel method suggestion: If you have companions and sufficient time, it is recommended to charter a car or self-drive to enjoy the scenery along the way at your own pace, stopping wherever you like.
About altitude sickness: Although I do not suffer from altitude sickness, for companions who do, it is a good choice to prepare glucose and adapt in Lhasa for two days. For minor discomfort, there is no need to rush to oxygen, consider oxygen only if really uncomfortable, and you can go to the hospital to get related medicines. Do not bathe, drink alcohol, or go clubbing upon first arriving in Lhasa, maintain sufficient good sleep, which helps to better adapt to the altitude sickness environment.
💕Solo travelers need not worry, you will surely encounter many like-minded new friends on the journey. Wishing every traveler a pleasant and unforgettable trip to Tibet! Encounter beauty🌈
Nyingchi: A Peach Blossom Paradise on the Snowy Plateau
In the distant snowy plateau, there is a land blessed by the heavens, which is Nyingchi, Tibet, a place full of mystery and vitality. Nyingchi, known as the 'Jiangnan of Tibet', is praised for its clear mountains and rivers, mild climate, and distinct seasons, making it more like a magical oasis compared to other regions of Tibet.
In spring, when the peach blossoms are in full bloom, Nyingchi turns into a pink ocean. The beautiful scenery of the blooming peach blossoms not only attracts thousands of tourists but has also captivated countless poets and scholars. The great Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu once dreamed of the peach blossoms of Nyingchi in his poems, and though he never set foot there, his heart had already taken flight. Here, every peach blossom seems to tell an ancient tale, narrating the changes of history.
Nyingchi is not only enchanting for its natural landscapes but is also one of the important birthplaces of Tibetan culture. The legendary stories of Pangu creating the world and Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs have left deep marks here. The predecessor of the Potala Palace, Tsongzanlin Monastery, is located here, witnessing the prosperity and development of Tibetan culture. Walking through the streets and alleys of Nyingchi, one can feel the strong religious atmosphere and ethnic characteristics everywhere. Every temple, every prayer flag, and every scripture speaks of the devotion to faith.
The natural beauty of Nyingchi is even more astonishing. The Yarlung Tsangpo River meanders here, with undulating mountains and swirling clouds, resembling a natural ink painting. Along the Nyang River, wildflowers are everywhere, the grass is green, and yaks and sheep graze leisurely by the river, presenting a peaceful and harmonious pastoral life. Every scene here is like a painting meticulously arranged by nature, bringing peace of mind and making one forget the troubles of the world.

Sejila Mountain Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
I am viewing Mount Namjagbarwa from the Sejila Mountain Pass
The Sejila Mountain Pass is a place on the way from Bayi Town in Nyingchi to Bomi County, also located on National Highway 318. It is a famous landmark and arguably the best spot to view Mount Namjagbarwa, as long as the weather is clear. From here, one can see the full splendor of this most beautiful peak. The ox head bell and the prayer flags spread across the mountains are the most significant symbols of the Sejila Mountain Pass.
The Sejila Mountain Pass is also known for its unique alpine rhododendrons, including the rare black rhododendrons, which bloom from mid-April to June. The mountainside covered with rhododendrons is incredibly beautiful and marks the best season to visit the Sejila Mountain Pass.
The drive from Bayi Town in Nyingchi to the Sejila Mountain Pass takes about an hour. There is no public transportation available, so it is recommended to drive or join a tour group. However, the road is at a high altitude with many bends, so one must drive with extra caution.
We witnessed the golden sunrise on Mount Namjagbarwa at the free viewing spot
Free viewing spot. Mount Namjagbarwa is the highest mountain in Nyingchi, Tibet, with an elevation of 7782 meters, part of the Himalayas. Its massive triangular peak is covered with snow all year round and shrouded in clouds and mist, making it elusive and often referred to as 'Shy Girl Peak'. The golden sunrise on Mount Namjagbarwa is even rarer to encounter, especially during the season we visited.
However, we were lucky. After visiting Lulang and on our way to Nyingchi, we thought we'd stop by, and unexpectedly, we saw it on our first try. It was very cold that day, but the atmosphere was great. A group of strangers gathered together at the Sejila Mountain Pass, nearly 5000 meters above sea level, our hands and mouths almost numb from the cold, ready to descend the mountain, and in an instant, as we turned around, we saw it (it appeared around 7:50 pm and lasted for about 15-20 minutes) - the golden sunrise on Mount Namjagbarwa!! Everyone couldn't help but cheer, the shouts echoed from the mountain top to the bottom, some were loudly venting, making wishes, and at that moment, as we looked at each other, I believe everyone had different thoughts, but the same feeling was: squatting for hours was worth it, and that moment felt warm on the 318 road because of the responding cheers
Little tips:
1. Navigate to Sejila Mountain Pass, park at the roadside of the viewing platform (free), and the Sejila Mountain is right across the road, with a great spot for photography. However, it is very cold due to the high altitude, so remember to wear more, otherwise, you will really freeze, and those with altitude sickness should be cautious, as the mountain is difficult to climb (refer to the last two photos). You can also see the golden sunrise from the viewing spot (that day we wore base layers + down jackets + hardshell jackets and it was still cold).
2. The Sejila Mountain area is free, I'm not sure if it's because September is the off-season or if it's always free, other places like Sosong Village have been fenced off and charge a fee, so you can choose your location accordingly.
3. Remember to hold onto the prayer flag ropes when climbing the mountain, it's much easier and safer. Also, two-thirds of the way up the mountain is about right, there's a flatter spot where you can sit, rest, and set up a tripod. You can't go to the very top later, as staff will usher you away.
Finally, I wish everyone good luck and hope you all get to experience it
Complete Travel Guide to the Peach Blossom Festival in Nyingchi, Tibet! It was so impressive!
