2️⃣ There are many homestays in Zhaohua Ancient City, take a good look at pictures and reviews when choosing. We picked Jiameng Post, which was quite good and convenient; the food in Zhaohua seems similar from place to place, go with what looks good to you, the intestines are a tasty specialty😋

Guangyuan Zhaohua Ancient City, a journey through the past to converse with history
Guangyuan Zhaohua Ancient City, a journey through the past to converse with history.
Address: Zhaohua Town, Zhaohua District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan
Admission: Free entry to the ancient city; 40 yuan per ticket to visit the city wall and other attractions
🍱 Food: Specialty dishes include walnut crisp and bean curd fish
Scenery:
Zhaohua Ancient City has four main streets and five alleys, all paved with local green sandstone slabs in a style that follows the natural slope with a higher middle and lower sides, resembling the ridge of a roof. The streets and alleys are interconnected in a 'Ding' shape, featuring a military defense characteristic of 'interlocking roads without facing city gates'. Along the ancient streets, there are well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, mostly of the through-mortise-and-tenon wood structure, with small green tiles and simple Northern Sichuan-style residential houses.
The commercialization is not severe, and many local original products are affordably priced. You can buy a ticket to climb the city tower for a panoramic view of the ancient city. During the day, there are plenty of food and fun in the East Market, and it's near the river, making it a nice place to play in the water in summer; at night, the West Market is lit with big red lanterns and various lights, transporting you back to the nights of ancient times.
Travel Guide for Zhaohua Ancient Town
Zhaohua Ancient Town is not very large, and there aren't many places to visit, but besides Jianmen Pass, it's still worth a trip when in Guangyuan. The only three-star hotel is affordable, with a beautiful environment, and it's very comfortable to stay in. The staff provides excellent service.
There are many picking greenhouses near Zhaohua Ancient Town, with a variety of fruits and vegetables like strawberries, which are delicious when freshly picked, but the prices are slightly high. Especially since the cost is calculated based on the picking price, which is a bit too much. In the spirit of having fun, I didn't mind, but friends who come to pick next time should ask more questions to avoid any unpleasantness.
Two or three days are enough to enjoy Zhaohua, and it's especially suitable for taking photos. Boys bringing their beautiful other halves to the ancient town for a photoshoot will definitely get great shots. As for food, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly memorable.

Unstoppable and unforgettable 10 minutes life time experience and fun-filled moments. After about four months of ESL teaching in Jiange before I realized that such a beautiful and monumental place exist.
Jianmen Pass is a mountain pass located southwest of the city of Guangyuan in Sichuan province.
It's located in Jiange County which is a few distance from my apartment.
It's famous for the beauty of its steep slopes and it's strategic importance in ancient times.
As the traditional Chinese saying goes, "If one man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to get through".
I had real fun with couple of friends at different outings.

Jianmen Pass | The Perilous Ancient Shu Path Worth Experiencing in Life
🤦♀️So dangerous, so dangerous...
🤷Finally, I understand the difficulty of the Shu path, as hard as ascending to the heavens. Not to mention in ancient times... Every step is a leap across the boundaries of history, and this place is worth experiencing the peril of the ancient Shu path once.
🏯Jianmen Pass, as an important pass on the ancient Shu path, combines the natural beauty of being grand, dangerous, strange, and elegant. Li Bai lamented its 'One man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to open'... The terrain is steep, the mountains are clear, the waters are beautiful, and the scenery is pleasant, especially the cliffs and the dangerous valleys, which are breathtaking...👍.
🚗Transportation: Self-drive navigation to Jianmen Pass from Chengdu. (About 4 hours), plenty of parking spaces available.
🎫Ticket: 100 for adults, half price for children, cable car 50.
🧚🏻♂️Route selection:
We chose the north-to-south route🍃:
North Gate - Cableway - Bird Path - Fairy Bridge - Liangshan Temple - Liangshan Pavilion - Stone Bamboo Peak - One Line Sky🐒. (Relatively easier)
🌟Warm tips:
1️⃣Recite 'The Difficulty of Shu Road', and you can get free admission.
2️⃣For the north route, the cable car can take you to mid-mountain for 50r per person. If you don't take the cable car, it's nearly a 2-hour climb.
3️⃣Bird Path and Macaque Path are narrow and steep, with unclimbable heights above and bottomless abysses below. Visitors must slowly move up by holding onto the iron chains with both hands. It is not recommended for friends with poor physical strength or fear of heights.
4️⃣Macaque Path ticket is 68 yuan, buy on-site, sign and stamp, you have to sign a disclaimer, if something happens, no responsibility will be pursued, after all, there might be safety risks.
5️⃣The Jianmen Pass Gate Tower is the core attraction of the entire scenic area. The South Gate is closest to the Gate Tower, about 800 meters away. 'One man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to open' refers to this place (If you don't want to climb and only see the Gate Tower, you can enter from the South Gate.
The Sword Pavilion is towering and majestic, with one man guarding the pass, and ten thousand unable to open it
Sword Gate Pass
It rained all day yesterday, and it was said to be closed. After coming here today, it indeed feels too dangerous to climb in heavy rain.
Let's get back to the point, take bus number 7 from Jian'ge County Bus Station to reach the scenic area, remember to enter the station to get on the bus and buy a ticket, you can't wait for it outside, the fare to the scenic area is 3 yuan. It is recommended to enter from the north gate and exit from the south gate, this way there are more downhill paths which are less strenuous, some say downhill hurts the knees, but I think taking it slow and applying force effectively is quite helpful.
The ticket is 105 yuan, those who can recite 'The Road to Shu is Hard' from memory get free admission, it is recommended to only take the first section of the cable car for 50 yuan, which can be purchased after entering the main gate of the scenic area. After getting off the cable car, you will face a choice of three paths: one is to continue taking the second section of the cable car (suitable for the elderly and those carrying children), the second is the Gibbon Path (suitable for the brave seeking thrills), and the third is the intermediate Bird Path. I decisively chose the Bird Path, the Gibbon Path looked a bit scary, even for the Bird Path, you need to climb with both hands holding onto chains, so remember not to hold a stick or carry things in your hands, after a period of climbing, the path becomes gentler, but there is a cliff on the right side, you must pay attention to safety, and try not to look down, it really makes you dizzy, after coming down I felt my blood pressure had risen
Then it's a brisk walk, passing through the Small Tunnel (which I didn't notice, confused), Stone Bamboo Peak, Skyline, and finally the Pass Tower.
I walked and stopped along the way, taking 5 hours in total, I am from the Northeast, I had a bowl of hot Douhua (tofu pudding with chili oil and brine) on the road, and a smoked pork rib, both for the first time, and they tasted quite good. Then exit through the south gate and continue to take bus number 7 back to the county town, this bus seems to run at intervals depending on the passenger flow, the driver said it might be 30 minutes, or possibly 50 minutes.

📍Location: Qianfo Cliff, Lizhou District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province
🚗Travel: Recommended to drive or take the bus
🈺️Opening Hours: 8:30-17:30
🎫Ticket Price: 💰50 yuan (Winter discount event, with a chance to purchase tickets for 1 yuan)
Attraction Introduction: Guangyuan Qianfo Cliff, located on the left bank of the Jialing River, is an important part of the Jianmen Shu Road National Scenic Area. The cliff carvings are distributed along a 420-meter-long cliff, reaching up to 84 meters in height, with the highest niche being 45.5 meters above the ground. There are a total of 13 layers, with more than 950 niches and over 7,900 Buddha statues.
These carvings began in the Northern Wei Dynasty and flourished from the Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, especially during the Tang Dynasty. During the Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, and Qing periods, the focus was mainly on coloring. It is the largest grotto group in Sichuan and is known as the 'Exhibition Hall of Stone Carving Art through the Ages'.
In 1935, due to the construction of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Highway, some carvings were damaged. In 1961, the Qianfo Cliff carvings were listed as one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In 2012, it was rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
Little Knowledge Share: The Tang Dynasty cliff carvings of Guangyuan Qianfo Cliff have the following characteristics:
✅One Buddha, two Bodhisattvas, two disciples: The main shapes are pointed arch and round arch, and the carvings are simple yet exquisite. The Buddha statues often have square or round faces, with a solemn and amiable expression, three neck folds, broad shoulders, and a robust, rounded figure.
✅Clothing and attire: Most wear a kasaya that covers both shoulders. This style of clothing appeared in small quantities during the Tang Dynasty's Zhenguan period, became popular during Empress Wu's reign, and after the Kaiyuan period, it became the only form of Buddha attire.
✅Plump and rounded: The 'open face' of Buddha statues is a characteristic of Buddhist carvings after the prosperous Tang period, with high spiral hair buns and a plump, full face.
✅Artistic techniques: The grotto carvings are mainly high-relief, with some niches using through-carving and hollowing techniques, giving the statues a more three-dimensional feel.
When visiting cultural attractions, in addition to taking photos and checking in, it is more important to understand the historical stories behind them, to feel the wisdom of the ancients, and to broaden one's horizons and ways of thinking.
The spectacular sight of Qianfo Cliff makes one admire the wisdom of the ancients; after a thousand years of weathering, many carvings have become unrecognizable, and some have even been destroyed, which is deeply moving.
Cherish the present, feel the history.

Temple of the Empress - Huangze Temple
✅✅ The only temple in China dedicated to an empress
✅✅ Among the first batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units
✅✅ National 4A-level tourist attraction
✅✅ A famous tourist spot in Guangyuan
♻️♻️ Huangze Temple, originally named "Wunu Temple" or "Chuanzhu Temple", is located on Empress Road, Lizhou District, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. It is a temple dedicated to Wu Zetian, the only female emperor of China 👸👸👸
♻️♻️ The temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty's Kaiyuan era and has a history of over 1300 years. The existing main structures include the main gate, Zetian Hall, Ersheng Hall, Big Buddha Tower, Little South Sea, Lüzu Pavilion, Five Buddhas Pavilion, Wu Family Ancestral Temple, Bell and Drum Tower, and the Heart Sutra Cave, etc. ⛩️⛩️⛩️
♻️♻️ In addition to the true likeness of Empress Zetian, the temple also preserves cliff carvings of Huangze Temple from the Northern Wei to the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as inscriptions from various eras, which have great value for cultural relics appreciation and research. The Big Buddha in the Big Buddha Tower, the donor figures, and the central pillar, as well as the Song Dynasty tomb relief carvings, are even hailed as treasures of traditional Chinese culture 🎎🎎🎎
🚙🚙 Transportation: There are sightseeing buses available from the city, and it is also accessible by car, but parking spaces are competitive 🅿️🅿️🅿️
💰💰 Admission: 48 yuan 💴💴💴
Visit Huangze Temple to see the true likeness of Empress Wu Zetian
🫅🏻After Wu Zetian ascended to the throne, she favored Buddhism over Taoism, using it to suppress the Li royal family who claimed descent from Laozi. Against this backdrop, a nationwide trend emerged to build temples and carve Buddha statues on a grand scale. 🗿
This was especially true in Wu Zetian's hometown of Guangyuan, where an image of the empress was carved and enshrined in Huangze Temple. Since it was modeled after Wu Zetian post-coronation, the statue resembles an old lady, which is probably the closest representation of the real Wu Zetian.
In addition to this, Huangze Temple also preserves more than 50 grottoes and over 1,000 stone carvings.
The Great Buddha Grotto carved during the Tang Dynasty is the best preserved, with a full and well-arranged layout of figures that are relaxed in posture. In the center stands a 5.8-meter-tall statue of Amitabha, flanked by two disciples, two bodhisattvas, two vajra warriors, and two heavenly kings.
