this church cant be miss . is near donwtown and is walking distance from the port as well. Do avoid noon time as it get crowded with all the tour bus . As for the church it is Grand and impressive exterior with a huge open plaza in the front. When on top of the steps, you get great views of Helsinki. Interior is a bit more muted and spartan but tastefully done. The organ is beautiful and shows really well inside the church. The pulpit and altar have simple, clean lines and are both very elegant. Allow about 30-45 mins for a visit.
We walked up to Senate Square and the Lutheran Cathedral from visiting the Orthodox Cathedral and the contrast was striking; all the complexity and grandeur of this cathedral is in it's position - at ...
I was suprised that it is always open, it is very sober compared with other churches. From the top of the cathedral you can have magnificent view of the harbour... everything is close by.
Any visitor to Helsinki should pop into the Cathedral, however do not expect an overly opulent church (frankly it is the outside architecture that is the most impressive): the inside is very Lutheran,...
The main cathedral in Helsinki, during the day and during night, but it stays very impressive. Go visit the cathedral after going up the stairs, or just enjoy the view when you got upstairs. Or stay down to look at this white beauty #givethanks

Helsinki Cathedral is the most famous building in Helsinki, located on Parliament Square, a Lutheran church. Built in 1852, the Helsinki Cathedral is a white building with a pale green dome. The structure is exquisite and the atmosphere is extraordinary. It is the essence of Finnish architectural art.
Helsinki Cathedral, also known as the White Church. In the winter, the snow covered the square in front of the church, the warm lights lit up and the whole church was holy.
The building itself is very distinctive: the Greek-style temple building is above the Russian-style dome of the Orthodox Church, indicating that Russia's influence on Finland at that time has far surpassed that of European native culture. The interior of the church is still relatively simple, unlike the complex interiors of traditional Orthodox churches.

Helsinki Cathedral, also known as the White Church, is located in the Senate Square in Helsinki. Built in 1852, this milky white Helsinki Cathedral is an exquisite structure and extraordinary in style. It is the essence of Finnish architectural art. The height of the church is more than 80 meters above sea level. At the top of the cathedral is a bell tower with a pale green arch. The Helsinki landmark can be seen from the sea. Whenever the church bell rings, the entire church square will be quiet, and many tourists can feel the quiet moment of peace brought by this religion.
Because the church is dominated by white, the Greek temple-style white columns are also full of romantic atmosphere. Favored by many newcomers, it has become a very popular wedding location for shooting in Helsinki.
Into the church, the interior of the church has a sharp contrast with its delicate atmosphere, which can hardly be said to be lacking. This is because the majority in the Nordic people believe in Christian Lutheran. Lutheranism is the Protestant founded by Martin Luther in 1529. The core of his teaching is justification by faith, that is, only when people have a pure faith can they become true Christians, and the external good deeds are pure. The inevitable result of faith. Under the influence of this doctrine, the architecture, design and aesthetics of Northern Europe have presented simple features that affect all aspects of people's lives.
The dome decoration and painting inside the church, but with a more simple and straightforward design, showing his temper to the world.

In Helsinki, even if you don't have any religious beliefs, you can only appreciate it from the perspective of art, architecture and design. There are so many churches that you can't help but look at: the rock church is the first to bear the brunt, the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, the sense of design The full silence of the chapel and the Russian-style Uspenski Church also have their own charm. The
rock church is built on huge natural rocks, and the Finns appreciate the natural and quaint aesthetics. In addition to various religious ceremonies and weddings, various concerts including symphonies are held from time to time. Thanks to the circular shape of the hall, coupled with the echo of the rock wall, the church sounds wonderful.
and the most visible building in the heart of Helsinki, of course the neoclassical Helsinki Cathedral, the top of the white church is a bell tower with a pale green arch, more than 80 meters above sea level, a glance at the sea can see. Due to the lofty status of the cathedral, almost all Finnish couples wish to hold a wedding here, even for a one-and-a-half-year appointment!

To think they begun construction in the early 1800's would beg belief. It's design is very pleasant for Russian eyes as it was designed and built specifically for them. It's possible to relax here and watch everyone go about their business quite happily with the odd tram passing by every so often making it that much more atmospheric. It was the highlight of my 1 night stay in Helsinki just to reflect back on my travells and ponder life without disturbance. Experience the mesmeric Helsinki Cathedral whenever you pass through Finland, you wont be disappointed.
its huge... and the environment is stunning.. superb.
One of the most beutiful buildings in Europe. I've always wanted to see it in person, and it is safe to say that it is as magnificent as I expexted (if not even more). Glad to have it off my 'must see' list.
The Cathedral is massive, the green domes can be seem from almost all over the city. It's a really impressive building. It was built as a tribute to Tsar Nicholas I of Russia
