MONA Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
In Hobart, Australia, a unique sea time
About Hobart
This beautiful harbour city is located under the hills of Wellington in Tasmania. It is also the southernmost city in Australia.
At first sight of Hobart, it is a cold wind, with a bit of bleak autumn scenery. But the whole city is full of pleasant and casual taste. Hobart is famous for its specialties, seafood, art museums and natural river harbors and sea scenery. The local culture and unique natural scenery are perfectly combined.
The museum is different
It is located in the middle of the sea, so it is only by boat. This is a museum full of art, creativity and design, with many interesting art installations. There is also a very interesting project in the evening, which is a picnic. Sit on the lawn, taste cheese and wine, and admire the beautiful vineyards.
Hobart goes out to sea
I have friends who say that he likes Tasmania very much, because the nature here is an unparalleled fresh taste.
When you go out to sea, remember to bring a thick dress. The boat is very fast and the wind is very big, but before the beautiful scenery, the sun is shining, you will only feel the sun is warm, the scenery in front of you is like a painting. The guides of the peers actually jumped into the water and caught fresh and delicious seafood under the water. Sea urchins, salmon, abalone, lobsters, all fresh. Cook a little and enjoy the delicious. When I returned, I actually took the helm and experienced the boating myself. It was so interesting that the endless sea rushed to the end of the day.
Known as the world's darkest and mysterious museum, it is opened by professional gamblers and even exhibits human body excretion simulators!
Taiwan's local billionaire David Walsh is both a math genius and a professional gambler. He is arrogant and rebellious, hates traditional museums, and he wants to build "the adult's own Disneyland". In 2006, the MONA Museum of Ancient and Modern Art was established. It was born in 2011. The largest private museum in the Southern Hemisphere may be just David Walsh's new toy, but because everything here is full of novelty, quirks, and mystery, it has been repeatedly named The World Must Go Museum, attracting many visitors to explore.
MONA is short for Museum of Old and New Art. The name of the founder is quite traditional:)
MONA is located on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart. Ferries can be taken from the Hobart downtown terminal to the pier at the MONA Museum, with 7 round trips per day during the winter season. Flowers and flowers on the ferry in the VIP VIP room to enjoy the fine light food and drinks, while watching the scenery slowly outside the window, very leisurely.
MONA covers an area of 3.5 hectares and is picturesque. The most special is the museum of 8 exhibition halls of ancient and contemporary art designed by the best designers from the local and international. The layers are embedded in the Triassic sandstone on the river bank! The total construction area is hidden within 10 meters below the ground.
Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Hobart 🇦🇺
#thingstodo
One of the top attractions in Hobart Australia is none other than the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).
When I visited MONA, I could not help but admire the incredible architecture and avante garde art on display. The museum is pretty huge and there were many mind-blowing exhibits.
Well worth a visit as it will take your breath away!
My rating of this attraction: 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5!

Tranquil Tasmania
Tasmania, often referred to as the natural state of Australia, is an island of rugged wilderness, pristine beaches, and lush vineyards. This relatively untouched part of the world offers a serene escape with its rich history, unique wildlife, and vibrant local food and wine scene.
Start your Tasmanian adventure in Hobart, the island's capital, which combines colonial charm with a modern lifestyle. The city is famous for its bustling Salamanca Market, where you can find local crafts, fresh produce, and gourmet treats every Saturday. Not far from the city center, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) offers an avant-garde experience that challenges traditional museum concepts with its underground architecture and provocative exhibits.
Venture outside Hobart to explore Tasmania’s natural wonders. The Freycinet National Park is home to the iconic Wineglass Bay, with its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, making it a perfect spot for hiking and kayaking. Meanwhile, the wild and remote west coast offers the rugged beauty of the Tarkine wilderness, where dense rainforests meet the roaring ocean.
Wildlife enthusiasts will love the unique opportunities to see endemic species like the Tasmanian devil, echidnas, and the elusive platypus. Tasmania’s clean and cool climate also makes it an ideal location for wine production, especially pinot noir and chardonnay. Visiting local vineyards to sample these wines is a must-do.
For the best experience, visit Tasmania during the Australian summer (December to February) when the weather is most favorable for outdoor activities. However, if you prefer quieter times, the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn also offer beautiful scenery with fewer visitors.
Tasmania’s combination of natural beauty, rich history, and thriving local culture makes it a must-visit for those seeking a tranquil but engaging travel experience.

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (RTBG), located at the western end of the Tasman Bridge in Hobart, facing the strait, is only a 30-minute walk from the city center and the pier. The botanical garden was established in 1817 and is one of the earliest national botanical gardens established in Australia. The botanical garden covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart is a tranquil oasis that left me enchanted with its natural beauty and historical charm. My visit to these gardens was a serene escape into Tasmania's lush landscapes.
The gardens' meticulously curated collections of native and exotic flora showcase the rich biodiversity of the region. Strolling along the meandering pathways, I discovered enchanting landscapes, from the fragrant rose gardens to the serene lily pond.
What sets these gardens apart is their historical significance, with heritage-listed buildings and a legacy dating back to the early 19th century. The Conservatory, showcasing rare and tropical plants, is a horticultural marvel.
The gardens offer not only a peaceful retreat but also educational experiences through guided tours and interactive exhibits. For nature enthusiasts and those seeking a taste of Tasmania's botanical heritage, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is a must-visit destination that celebrates the beauty of the island's landscapes.

ibis Styles Hobart Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
"World's Best Travel Destination" Tasmania is truly beautiful.
In this lifetime, we must visit Tasmania! A pure little island at the end of the world, with beautiful mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas, free and romantic; natural grasslands, and isolated islands. Coming here to appreciate nature and listen to our hearts is really a good choice.
Preparation before departure
For flights to Tasmania within Australia, you can bring cosmetics, lighters, and other daily necessities containing liquids with you. Please bring toiletries such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. According to relevant Tasmanian regulations, please do not bring vegetables, fruits, or seafood products to the island!
Take measures to keep warm. Although Tasmania has entered spring, there is still a large temperature difference between morning and evening, and the wind on the hills of Wellington is still strong.
Don't worry too much about encountering rainy weather during your travels, as the weather on Tar Island is known for its variability. The clouds will soon disperse and the rain will stop.
Daily traffic:
Plane: Arrive at Hobart Airport and take the airport shuttle bus to the hotel (or use the airport pick-up service provided by the tour group).
Friends in Melbourne can choose the Spirit of Tasmania cruise in addition to flying, sleep on board overnight, and arrive the next morning.
. Self-driving: Not recommended. Tasmania's terrain is winding and can be challenging for unfamiliar drivers. Choose carefully.
One car: It's more cost-effective to travel with multiple people, and local drivers and tour guides are provided. The price is higher, but the itinerary is flexible.
Join a tour: worry-free, cost-effective, led by a professional team for safe and reliable experience.
