About Hongya

Situated on the southwest edge of the Sichuan Basin, Hongya is part of the "triangle” connecting the major cities of Chengdu, Leshan, and Ya’an. Hongya has been praised as a “green ocean pearl” because of its gorgeous mountains and streams and abundant resources. The area has Qiang ethnic culture, Taoist culture, and Buddhist culture, as well as the folk customs and culture of temple fairs and lantern dances. It has also successfully hosted a number of ecological culture, rhododendron, and ice and snow festivals. Hongya is home to the Wawu Mountain National Forest Park, Liujiang Ancient Town, Qiliping Tourism Resort, and Caoyutan Scenic Area (槽渔滩景区).

Wawu Mountain, in southwestern Hongya County, is the birthplace of Taoism. Wawu Mountain has many plants and animals, including many kinds of national Grade I-protected flora and fauna. This is a great destination for mountain adventures and leisurely sightseeing. Wawu Mountain has retained its rudimentary ecology, and thus has a low degree of commercialism. Visitors here can enjoy a variety of outdoor sports. When taking a leisurely walk along the trails, visitors may come across various protected animals such as antelopes, black pheasants and Chinese monals. This place is full of many wonderful natural surprizes.

Ancient Settlement
Liujiang Old Town is located on the banks of the Huaxi River in Sichuan Province. It was constructed during the Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279) . The old town mainly consists of buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Among them, the Zengjia Courtyard is worth seeing. The layout of the courtyard is unusual, it is like the traditional character for ‘longevity.’ Visitors can take a stroll through the town and experience its unique charm. The banks of the river are home to ancient Chinese banyan trees.

Gaomiao Ancient Town is located in the southwestern part of Sichuan's Hongya County. Several kilometers away from the county seat, it is bordered to the east by Emei Mountain, to the south by Yiwawu Mountain, to the west by Lianyuping Mountain and to the north by the western Sichuan Plains. Dating back to the late Ming Dynasty, the name of the town is a blend of the name of the local Temple of the Earth God and the altitude of the old market town. From the Qing Dynasty, the town gradually became more prosperous. The territory around Gaomiao is rich in mineral resources such as copper, iron and limestone, and in herbal medicines such as Coptis Root and Gastrodia.
