Photos of Chaojingmen

Historically, the ancient city of Huizhou, which was hailed as the Dongjiang fortress by military strategists because of its 7 strong gate towers, was completely destroyed more than 80 years ago due to wars and other reasons. On July 3, 2006, the Chaojingmen Gate Tower, which is located on the south bank of the Dongjiang River and connected to the ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty of hundreds of meters, was restored and rebuilt in the same way as the Beicheng Gate of Huizhou in the Ming Dynasty. The original Beicheng Gate was built in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370 AD). In the 22nd year of Hongwu (1389 AD), the scale of the city gate was expanded and renamed Chaojing Gate. The Chaojing Gate Tower and City Wall Project is to build the embankment into an imitation ancient city wall with a water-retaining function, and build the dry gate into an imitation ancient city building. The three gates of Chaojing Gate and the six bright red gates are decorated with rows of golden knobs. Usually, these six electric flood gates are opened day and night to form traffic arteries, but when the water level of the Dongjiang River rises to 15 meters , the flood gates will be closed to resist the floods of the Dongjiang River.
