The Great Synagogue

Founded in 1878, the synagogue is a beautiful building and is still frequently used by Jewish groups in Sydney, and the design of the synagogue shows the evolution of Judaism. Our guide said the chanting (podium) was originally located in the center of the Great Refuge, but moved to the front to accommodate more people and make more efficient use of space. Men and women are still separated, with seats divided into floors and balconies. There are restrictions on the tour, so check on their website to avoid disappointment. A little fee will be charged symbolically.

The cathedral is a beautiful synagogue built in the 19th century in a Gothic style. It is located on Elizabeth Street, close to Sydney Hyde Park. From the outside it is a beautiful synagogue or it would be better to see it in Hyde Park. Unfortunately, we cannot enter the synagogue as it is always closed (we don't know if it is only open during worship). (Thank you, Dad, for this gift)

The cathedral is built of local sandstone, and the architectural style of "Gothic" is a relic of medieval cathedrals in Europe. It was founded in 1821, and the Catholic priest officially came to Australia in 1820, so St. Mary's Cathedral is also known as the mother of the Australian Catholic Church.

This synagogue seems to be a symbol of psychology, and the whole church has a medieval sense of design style.
