Kaiyuan Tower Park

Kaiyuan Pagoda and Jinzhang Pavilion are located in Lougangma Mountain (also known as Ta Mountain) in Changsha. Among them, Kaiyuan Tower is 7-storey high and covers an area of 49.1 square meters. It is said that Ye Chongxiu, a native of Nanxi County, Sichuan Province, was appointed magistrate in Kaiping at that time. Seeing that the culture of Kaiping County was not booming and the imperial examination was still unknown, he proposed to build a "Wenji" tower on the top of Mashan Mountain ("堛" and "pen" are homophonic and synonymous ), in order to sustenance more talents. Shortly after the "Wenji" tower was built, more than 10 people in Kaiping were elected. The Jinzhang Pavilion covers an area of 97.02 square meters. In the 23rd year of Daoguang (1843), Zhang Bangtai, the then county magistrate of Jishui, Jiangxi Province, decided to increase the "Wenzhen" tower by two floors to make it equal to the level of the Cangcheng Academy, and at the same time add a new building on the left side of the "Wenji" tower. A "Wen Yin", Kaiping will produce talents in large numbers. In July of the same year, the "Wenjie" tower was increased by two floors, and the Sifang Pavilion, which resembled the official seal, was also built and named "Jinzhangge". Since then, Kaiping has really prospered in the imperial examinations, creating a new era of Kaiping imperial examinations. Therefore, the "Wenbat" tower was renamed "Kaiyuan Tower", but because it has never been awarded the champion. So the bottom tower door has not been opened so far. In 1999, Kaiping City rebuilt Kaiyuan Pagoda and Jinzhang Pavilion, built Kaiyuan Pagoda Park, and built a "Confucius Church" on the original site of Jinzhang Pavilion, which houses a 3.89-meter-high bronze statue of Confucius. Kaiyuan Pagoda and Jinzhang Pavilion have regained their splendor.
