The Lhagang Grassland is located on the northwestern side of Kangding City, stretching to either side of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. In Tibetan language, "Lhagang" means "favorite place of the Buddha." Sites worth visiting on the grasslands include the Pel Lhagong Gompa and Muya Golden Pagoda. The brilliant green grassland is dotted with herdsmen's tents. It is one of the most harmonious and beautiful plateaus in the Tibetan plains. The Lhagang Grassland is dominated by the towering Yala Glacier. On the grasslands, the most popular place to visit is the Muya Golden Pagoda. Traditional horse races are held every year on the Lhagang Grassland. Local herdsmen dress in festive costumes and gather together from all directions to celebrate the holidays in traditional fashion.
