What people are saying:

Tagong Temple is a famous temple in Ganzi Prefecture. After years of maintenance, the temple building is magnificent. It is located in Tagong Grassland Scenic Area, 113 kilometers away from Lucheng Town, Kangding County. The Sichuan-Tibet Highway passes through. Tagong is the nearest to Kangding. A pure pastoral grassland. We passed the Tagong Temple on the way to Xinduqiao. The temple is not very large, mainly including the main hall, the guardian hall, and the "reclining Buddha" hall. Because it is on the grassland, it matches the surrounding scenery well, so it is not a self-driving one. It is recommended to charter a car from Kangding. The round-trip cost is about 200 yuan, and the ticket for the Tagong Temple is 20 yuan. The ticket indicates the sesame oil coupon. The entire temple can be transferred in one hour. After the tour, you can go to Tagong Grassland and Muya Golden Pagoda. In fact, you don’t need to make a special trip. Driving from Danba to Xinduqiao will pass the Tagong Temple, and you will also pass by Tagong Grassland. It is the best place to visit. Tagong Grassland is located 33 kilometers northwest of Xindu Bridge. It is named after the center of the grassland is the Tagong Temple of the Sakya Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. "Ta Gong" is a Tibetan language, meaning "a place that Bodhisattva likes". From late June to early August each year, Tagong Grassland is the most beautiful and lively season. The wild flowers on the grassland compete with each other and bloom; smoke in the herdsmen’s tents and the fragrance of milk on the grassland will make you feel happy. It will become clear and casual, and if you are lucky, you can catch up with the grand traditional jockey club. The Muya Jin Pagoda on Tagong Grassland is a major attraction, and it is an integral part of Tagong Scenic Area. Muya Golden Pagoda is a stupa built by the Living Buddha Dorje Tashi to commemorate the tenth Panchen Lama’s initiation here. Except for the three-story pagoda with gold on the top, the pagoda is white. The golden pagoda under the sun has a dazzling golden light. There are 400 prayer wheels around the golden pagoda, and people from all directions come to pass the prayer every day.

    Don't miss it

Tagong Temple is in the heart of the town right next to the main square. The local people were friendly and the young children took great delight in sliding down the concrete stair rails, all dressed ...

    Pretty

Nice temple. The monks are friendly and seem to like visitors. It seems to be more locals than tourists so it feels more authentic.

Awesome in a very real sense of the word

This is an incredible place to visit. It is not a tourist attraction(although we were warmly greeted by all we met), it is a very real monastery. The monks are so tolerant of outsiders coming in, but ...

    Difficult to Grasp the History

I may have just visited on a bad day as I didn’t feel I could get a good grasp on the history. Perhaps it was because there was no one collecting the entrance fee and no handout to explain what you we...
