Holy Rosary Cathedral Minor Basilica

There are not many churches in Taiwan. This church is very famous in Taiwan and was established by the British at that time.

The Cathedral of the Rose is located on Wufu 3rd Road, Kaohsiung, beside the Love River Bridge. Kaohsiung is known as the former Golden Cathedral and its full name is the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. The statue of Our Lady of the Rosary on the main altar in the church came from Spain in 1863 and has a history of 140 years. During the Xianfeng year of the late Qing Dynasty, foreigners were permitted to preach. The former Golden Catholic Church was the first Catholic church in Taiwan. It was founded and constructed by the priests Guo Degang and Hong Baolu in 1859~1860 by the Dominion Church of the Philippines, a Spanish territory, on the order of the Holy See. .

After the tour in Qijin, we took the ferry back to Gushan Ferry Station. Then I cycled to visit the Rosary Church, which is the first Catholic church in Taiwan and one of the three largest churches in Asia. This minaret building with a mixture of Gothic and Romanesque styles was rebuilt in 1928. After completion, it was dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, hence the name St. Dominic's Church. The front of the church is a towering spire, and there are small guard towers on both sides. On the brow of the door there is still a stone stele of the order of Xianfeng, and there are reliefs of small angels with wings on the circular arches. The buildings are mainly black, gray and blue In the middle, the round arch windows of stained glass are arranged, and the bright and dazzling tones add magnificence and solemnity to the church. The interior of the church is not allowed to take pictures and enter casually. We looked at the door and the interior decoration was full of artistic atmosphere. The church is next to the Kaohsiung Bridge across the Love River, and then I visited the nearby Love River Scenic Belt for a short distance. It is said that the night view of the lighting decoration here is very beautiful. Unfortunately, we lived far away and it was not convenient to come out at night.
