Kashgar Photo

About Kashgar: Kashi, otherwise known as Kashgar, is a city in China’s extreme west, very close to the Tajikistan border. It is situated in the Xinjian Uyghur Autonomous Region, home to China’s Muslim Uyghur ethnic minority. Because of the Muslim influence, the city is very different from others in China. It is home to China’s largest mosque. Id Kah, and the tomb of Abakh Khoja, considered by many Uyghers to be a prophet second in importance only to Mohammed. It is the rare and brave traveler who makes his or her way to Kashgar, and while specific tourist attractions and activities are few, the unique culture and lifestyle of the local people are an extremely interesting and spiritual experience.
