I’ve come to enjoy slow travel. It gives you a chance to go to the local grocery store and get familiar with the ingredients. learning to make the dishes by locals will let you have a taste of that place in your cooking arsenal long after you’ve left it. A mark of the people even after their face turns vague in your memory. While in Pakistan I learned the local bread, Roti. As well as several dishes with cauliflower, which I now know is not boring. Now I know how to make it even though I am gone.

It really is the simple pleasures. I did some light quarantining before travelling too, knowing life would be complicated if I got stuck somewhere along my journey for medical treatment, and not wanting to spread anything around. The fall sunsets and crisp evening air kept me company as the day fell into darkness. This was the end of my extended travel in Pakistan.

Going for a walk and just taking in the view is so underrated. Whether it was exploring the streets of Vietnam before all this or getting stuck in Pakistan and living that slow #staycation , going on a walk always gave me a good measure of the place. Now it’s just more necessary than ever, because it’s our only connection to beyond our four walls.

The more often we see the things around us - even the beautiful and wonderful things - the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds - even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see them less and less.
