The Similan Islands

National Park
The Similan Islands are one of the top ten diving destinations in the world. They are only open from November to April. The period from December to May is the season when leopard sharks appear. Similan means “nine” in Malay, and the Similan Islands refers to nine islands. The waters around these islands are the best for diving in Thailand. For licensed divers, a few days staying on a boat and diving will no doubt be the favorite way to experience the area. The sand on the islands’ beaches is fine and soft, and shoes are not permitted to be worn in order to protect the environment and maintain a healthy ecological balance.

Island/Peninsula
Tachai Island is located in the northeast of Ko Ban Island and Similan Archipelago. It is a significant landscape in the ocean park. Numerous huge rocks form a maze. There are many cave entrances and exits. From the 15-meter high platform, visitors can see various tropical fishes swimming around, including nurse sharks, leopard sharks and mantas. It is an ideal place to watch whale sharks.

The first time I saw the picture of Similan, I was shocked. So beautiful islands must not be missed.

"Similan" means Malay 9 because it was originally discovered by Malaysians and consists of 9 islands. In 1982, Thailand officially established the Similan National Park, which was stationed by the Thai Navy. In order to protect the marine ecology and to avoid the rainy season, it is only open from November to April every year.

Booked a day trip to Similan in advance, and the package includes a round-trip transfer from Phuket Hotel for three meals and drinking water, drinks and fruit. I was picked up at the dock for breakfast early that morning. After that, each boat's tour guide explained the itinerary and precautions, and took out a big bag to keep everyone's shoes in the dock. Then they boarded the boat and started to be afraid of bumps. It is recommended to sit at the end of the boat.

Drive at full speed for about one hour and twenty minutes to reach the first stop on the 8th island. Climb along the path to the windsurfing stone to see the panoramic view of the boots beach. In order to prevent hot and anti-tie, it is recommended to wear diving socks to climb the mountain. The soft white sand, the crystal clear water, gradually transitions from turquoise to sapphire, and everything in front of it is exactly the same as the imaginary beauty.

8 Island is relatively large, there are tables and benches in the woods for dining or rest, and there are usually long queues for group meals. There are toilets and showers on the island for changing after diving.
