About Houses of Parliament

Westminster Palace in London is a magnificent example of Gothic revival architecture. It houses the parliament of the United Kingdom and is thus also known as the Houses of Parliament. In 1834, a fire destroyed most of the Palace, only sparing Westminster Hall. The building as we see it today is the result of a rebuilding process spanning many years. The needle-like spires covering the roof of the Palace nowadays were designed by the architect Charles Barry, whose most distinctive mark on the Houses of Parliament remains the bell tower housing Big Ben.
