Exactly what is says it is. See the great and the good, the modern and historical and if they haven't been painted by someone trying to make a name for themselves they even look like who they are! It s a win win!

The Portrait Gallery is a neat spot to spend a few hours. It's free, so there's no risk in it, and it's conveniently located around the corner from Trafalgar Square. Here you will find the official portraits of many famous Britons from centuries past that you typically see in the history books. You'll also find many an intriguing image of celebrities and common folk.
Free entry. A lot of great stuff from different periods. Some of the parts cost money.
Best galleries for art and photography exhibitions. Next to the Trafalgar Square and Garrick Theatre at Charing's Cross. It is free for visitors due to the national funding so do catch the new exhibit when in town.
One of my favourite galleries in London. You get to appreciate the art and the history of the UK and it's the perfect size so not as exhausting as some of the other galleries in London. Also has an amazing coffee shop/restaurant with rooftop views.
