This 2000 project is an amazing piece of landscape architecture on what once was a contaminated site that housed petrochemical and acid works on the riverbank. Wavy strips of plants whose coulours change with the seasons reflect the dynamic nature of the river Thames and the Flood Barriers. A Pavilion of Remembrance commemorates local people who died in the Second World War.
The design of the Thames River's levees is very unique. From Greenwich to Tower Bridge in London by Cruise ship, we can see that it was built for the purpose of preventing sea water from backfilling. It was also awarded by the Royal Society of Civil Engineering of Britain.
Thames River flood control dam is the Thames River barrier, very impressive four central gates, five storeys high and weighing more than 3000 tons. When closed at high tide, the barrier protected more than 100 square kilometres of central London, with a good Thames Trail.
Great British engineering at its best! Probably the best tidal barrier in the world.
This dam is designed by a famous designer according to the actual topography and geology, which is very unique.
