What people are saying:

The Luding Bridge, also known as the Chain Bridge, is located on the Dadu River in Luding County, Sichuan Province. According to legend, after Emperor Kangxi unified China, he was imperially approved to build this bridge in order to strengthen cultural and economic exchanges in the Sichuan-Tibet area. The bridge was first built in 1705 and completed in 1706. It is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese bridge architecture and the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council. The Luding Bridge is 103 meters long and 3 meters wide. 13 iron chains are fixed in the wells of the bridge abutments on both sides, 9 are used as bottom chains, and 4 are used as handrails on both sides. There are a total of 12,164 iron rings interlocking. The iron parts of the whole bridge are heavy. More than 40 tons. The ancient castles on both sides of the Luding Bridge are ancient wooden structures of the Han nationality, which are unique to China. Since the Qing Dynasty, the Luding Bridge has been an important channel for Sichuan’s entry into Tibet and an important military fund. On May 29, 1935, the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants passed through here on the Long March. A commando led by 22 warriors braved the enemy's bullets and crawled forward on the chain bridge to wipe out the bridgehead guards in one fell swoop. "Flying over the Luding Bridge" opened the passage of the Red Army's long march to the north to resist Japan, composing the "thrilling, dangerous, strange, and extraordinary" war miracle in the history of the Chinese revolution and the history of the world military.
