You can't say you have visited if you have not visited this Basilica. It is beautifully built and furnished and has really great views of the city as well. A must visit when in Lyon.
We visited Lyon in May 2019 when we researching our upcoming book "Flavour with Benefits: France". You need to walk up to the Basilica. It is great exercise and an even better view. Plus you'll build...
Lyon, France, can finish the city in one day, if only passing by.
has a special recommendation

The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvire is a Catholic sub-temple in Lyon, France. Combining Romanesque and Byzantine architecture, I chose two non-gothic designs that were unusual at the time. With exquisite mosaics, superb window panes, and St. Joseph's basement, it gives me a powerful visual shock. Whether it's murals, glass, domes and columns, everything is intricately crafted.
The Notre Dame de Fourviere actually contains two churches. The church is very gorgeous, and the church is very simple.
Overlooking the Lyon peninsula on the top of the Riviera, the Rhone River and the Sane River meet here. It is a very good view point. It is recommended to climb up to overlook the charm of Lyon, the night is quite beautiful, the whole mountain There are lights, golden light and river water.

Introduction
Though not nearly as old as most of France's famous churches, the Basilique de Fourviere can hang with the big boys when it comes to grandeur. The building was erected between 1872 and 1884 using private funds, and was meant to thank God for victory over socialists and in expiation of the sins of modern France. Sometimes called the “upside-down elephant,” the design of the massive, twisty, fortress-like building was influenced by oriental, symbolist and neo-classic influences. An observatory allows for a panoramic view of the city. Guided tours are available.
So many steps, but worth it! The view and knowing you can eat more cheese because you climbed so many steps make this place a must-visit.
Highly recommended to spend time to hang around and check out the beauty of its. Its rank over than others, not the size, obviously the details of everything, like the ceiling, the windows, .... marvellous upkeeping, just beautiful....
I didn't get a chance to go in the church as it had already closed but I was there for sunset. The view is stunning and the exterior of the church is interesting, especially the sculptures. The hike up is good for the character so to speak but there is also a funicular and a car park for those who would rather not do the steep hike.
Awesome view of the city! Also, highly recommend going into the church, it is absolutely beautiful!
Darfur d Notre Dame is located in 281 meters above sea level in darfur d yell hill, the church was built in the 19th century, is seen as a sign of Lyon. Appearance by the Byzantine empire and medieval style fusion, decorated with marble. Mosaic and murals within the church is very beautiful. The right of the Notre Dame chapel, the top of the tower stands the statue of the virgin Mary. From the church on the left side of the platform, overlooking the scenery around the Lyon, especially at night, bright lights, everywhere is very beautiful.
