Escondido Falls

Nice little hike. You have to park at the bottom of a huge hill and then walk a while through a residential area (mostly up hill) before you actually get to the trail. That was not well marked at all. Otherwise it’s a beautiful hike. We were easily able to do it (ages 7, 9, 36, 44). The path was mostly clear and wide. A few very small streams (like you could probably walk right over them and barely get your feet wet) are in the trail which the kids loved. The falls were really nice and there was enough space at the bottom to play around. There were some trails to the top of the falls but we didn’t venture up them.

I started from Santa Monica with a friend and drove on the Pacific Coast Highway for about 17 miles. At this time, you can see the fork in the East Winding Road. With a bag on my back, I walked along the road and came to Escondido Canyon Park in less than 1 mile. Walking along the canyon, you can see the beauty of Escondido Falls, the highest here. Note Because it was spring when I went there, Escondido Falls where the ice and snow melted has plenty of water, so the water from the waterfall will be layered on the mountains, like crystal clear crystals, very dazzling under the refraction of the sun beautiful. If you go in other seasons, the water may be limited, but don’t regret it, the beautiful scenery along the way to the waterfall is already worth it.
