Photos of Arc de Triomphe ( Porte d'Aix )

Not only is there an Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but Marseille also has such an Arc de Triomphe. It is named after the road that connects Marseille with the cities of Aix, and is also the entrance to the city. Completed in 1839, the Arc de Triomphe commemorates King Louis XIV of France and the 1783 Treaty of Paris that marked the independence of the United States. Its inscriptions and light stone carvings were designed by sculptors David Danger and Remy.
