Bring your own picnic to this beautiful park at the bay. A winding path through a shady hammock leads you to this lush inviting place, which gives you the feeling that you have discovered a secret garden. The Barnacle itself is the oldest house in its original location in Miami Dade County. Built in 1891 it was the home of one of Coconut Grove’s founders, Ralph Middleton, who also was an avid sailor and yacht designer. The old boat ramp still leads out to the ocean. Feel free to let your imagination fly into the horizon.
A sight to see.. It is an important part of history and beautiful too.. you can also see a part of history just under the balcony at the Women's club, the oldest club in Miami and the Library which is also a historical sight and an original from the beginning of the South Florida settlement days.. Lots to learn and see right there outside apt 1801 in the Sonesta of Coconut Grove..
Walking distance from Apartment. Check their website for tours and other activities day or night. It is right on the bay. Amazing views!
This place is full of history! It's full of energy we loved it. it's a perfect place for a date!
Historic house in Coconut Grove by early pioneers.
Beautiful historic Barnacle!! a must visit. Walking distance from the house.
Home to the oldest house in Miami Dade County, surviving every hurricane. Modern houses are developed after the structural plan of the house here. The guy who built the place was very interesting so if you like history and have an hour or so kill in Coconut Grove, check the place out (it's only $5/person). The park itself is nice and quiet and happens to be across from some great restaurants.
