The Republic of San Marino, one of the oldest and smallest republics in the world, is located in Rimini, Italy, a veritable state of the nation. The bus climbed up the Titano Mountains, nearly 800 meters above sea level, through a winding mountain road, and walked uphill from the station through a city gate to its capital, San Marino. At first glance, unlike small Italian towns, the hilly castles and several churches are the main buildings, with shops, museums and restaurants on both sides of the narrow mountain streets.
