What people are saying:

If everyone is in Shantou during the New Year, then want to feel the culture of the tide, feel the taste of Shantou, mom company must come, every year during the New Year there are people here. As tourists, there are really too many things you can see. And I like the most of all the carvings of the characters on the beams.

    Temple and Dumplings

Nice little urban temple near the very derelict 小公园 Xiaogongyuan. Well this whole area is derelict. There's a good 肉粽 dumpling shop nearby (老妈宫粽球) worth eating.

Additional Information

The Mazu Palace is located at the head of Waima Road, also known as the Tianhou Temple, and it is adjacent to the Guandi Temple which is the former building of Shantou's foreign trade port. The Mazu Palace was built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty and was rebuilt in 1992. The stone relief on the door wall of the temple and the wood carving on the pillar have a high aesthetic value. In particular, a pair of openwork carved dragon stone carved from a single piece of stone, carved with the image of the Eight Immortals, is generally found in the Imperial Palace and the Confucius Temple. The ceramic art on the roof of the temple is a unique process in the Chaozhou region. It uses a fired colored ceramic tile to create a variety of designs that are both beautiful and weather resistant.
