Hula Shave Ice: Xuanwu Lake
Went to Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing with my family and stumbled upon Hula Shave Ice.
The lady who helped us was really nice, and the service was excellent. We decided to try a few things, and out of everything, I absolutely loved the rainbow shave ice – it's a flavor explosion! Definitely recommend trying it if you're in the area.
Besides the delicious shave ice, there are also lots of shops around, and the lake itself is beautiful to explore. It's a perfect place to spend a relaxing day, enjoying tasty treats and the lovely surroundings.

#Jiming Temple #Nanjing #Visit #January 2023
The Jiming Temple (simplified Chinese: 鸡鸣寺; traditional Chinese: 雞鳴寺; pinyin: Jīmíng Sì) is a renowned Buddhist temple in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. One of the oldest temples in Nanjing,it is located in the Xuanwu District near Xuanwu Lake. The ticket is 10 yuan. The temple, which literally means "rooster crowing" was first constructed in 527 during the Liang dynasty and has been destroyed and reconstructed many times. The existing temple was initially constructed during the Ming dynasty during the reign of the Hongwu Emperor in 1387. It was destroyed during the Taiping Rebellion but was rebuilt later. By 1931 most temple buildings had been appropriated as barracks by police and army of the Nationalist government of Republican China. The main hall had been emptied completely apart from the large Buddha statue. Only one hall, near the city wall was still being used for worship. The temple remained popular primarily because of its tea house which was also situated in that hall.

Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Nanjing, Jiangsu | Buddha's top bone relics, three floors above ground, six floors underground
Niushou Mountain is located next to Ningdan Avenue in Jiangning District, Nanjing. Niushou Mountain is also known as Tianque Mountain. The top bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha are enshrined on the mountain, also known as the "Buddha's top". Niushou Mountain Ruins Park is mainly composed of Buddha's Top Temple, Buddha's Top Pagoda, and Buddha's Top Palace.
The Buddha's Top Palace is a deep pit building. Its dome construction almost completely replicates the style of the Buddha's top bun provided in traditional temples. The difference is that behind its bun, people have put on a golden cassock made of light metal.
During the Southern Dynasty, Buddhism was prevalent, and there was a Buddha Cave Temple (now Hongjue Temple) south of Niushou Mountain. In the sixth year of Tang Taizong's Zhenguan era (AD 632), Niushou Mountain became the birthplace of the Buddhist "Ox Head Sect" (Ox Head Zen).
The relics enshrined in Niushou Mountain are the only surviving Buddha's top bone relics in the world. Because these relics symbolize the most intelligent brain of mankind, they are extremely precious and can be called the unique and supreme sacred object in the Buddhist world today. This Buddha's top bone relic was unearthed in the underground palace of Changgan Temple in Nanjing in July 2008.
The three floors above ground are the dome hall "Zen Scenery Grand View". A huge reclining Buddha is enshrined in the center of the Zen Scenery Grand View. The full-length 7.5-meter bronze cast Sakyamuni reclining statue can slowly rotate 360 degrees, showing the Buddha's peaceful and serene Nirvana realm.
In the Thousand Buddha Hall on the six underground floors, the most eye-catching is the Relic Holy Pagoda. The pagoda is modeled on the inverted Sumeru Mountain-shaped central pillar in the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and its appearance is extremely exquisite and gorgeous, symbolizing the pure and solemn Huazang world. And the Buddha's top bone relics are enshrined in this pagoda.
Niushou Mountain is bathed in Buddha's light all year round, with lake water and mist, like a fairyland, and has become one of the "four famous places in Jinling" together with Qinhuai River, Xuanwu Lake, and Zijin Mountain.
📍Detailed address:
Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Area: No. 18 Ningdan Avenue, Jiangning District, Nanjing, Jiangsu
Ticket: 160 yuan/person
N things you must know for a winter trip to Niushou Mountain!
Actually, you don't need any maps or guides for a winter trip to Niushou Mountain, because there is only one stop for the park bus, which is at the foot of the Buddha's Top Palace. Then take the escalator and climb the steps to the Buddha's Top Palace and Buddha's Top Tower.
There are many check-in spots outside the Buddha's Top Palace, but it's actually better to take pictures inside the Buddha's Top Palace!
📿Buddha's Top Palace
It is a deep pit-style building with three floors above ground and six floors underground. The external space is divided into a large dome and a small dome; the internal space above ground is a Zen landscape with a reclining Buddha, and the underground part is a palace built around the relic hall.
To be honest, the Buddha's Top Palace is very shocking, but it comes from the dazzling high-tech sense, the appropriate lighting, the dome like the universe starry sky, the huge Buddha statue with a graceful posture and beautiful face, it has a kind of western church-style mystery and gorgeousness, so the Buddha's Top Palace is more like a Buddhist art exhibition hall.
📿Things you need to know for the trip!
There are two gates in the scenic area, the east gate and the west gate. It is more convenient for self-driving to go to the west gate because it is halfway up the mountain. The east gate is at the foot of the mountain and there are more tourists.
There is a bus directly to the east gate from the subway station, 2 yuan. There are also black cars 10 yuan/person, not recommended to take.
You can take the park bus from the east gate to the Buddha's Top Palace, 10 yuan one way. There is not much scenery in winter, and it is very tiring to walk, so it is recommended to take a bus. There are many park buses, and the waiting time is not long.
There are free maps available at the tourist center near the east gate, but they are not actually needed in winter.
There is a vegetarian restaurant outside the Buddha's Top Palace from the underground palace, and there are Starbucks, KFC and Haagen-Dazs outside the east gate.
🍁Things you need to know for taking pictures!
Take a reflection in the pool at the entrance of the Buddha's Top Palace, and take a picture of the Buddha's Top Tower and the Buddha's Top Palace together in the pool at the back.
Try to go around to the back when taking pictures of the Buddha's Top Palace corridor, where there are fewer people.
There are always many people taking pictures of the Buddha's Top Tower reflection in the corridor, so you have to wait.
There is a particularly good spot in the underground palace, which is to take pictures of each other on two adjacent terraces, which is better than squeezing on one terrace, and you can also take pictures of the lotus seat appearance of the terrace.
📿Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Area
Address: No. 18 Ningdan Avenue, Jiangning District, Nanjing City

Five things you must know before going to Niushou Mountain
I finally went to Niushou Mountain in Nanjing this month
Almost everyone who comes here will pay attention to the cost of 4 billion
However, it's easy to overlook a few issues
So I've summarized five tips for you
One. If you drive here, buy a bus ticket to go up and down the mountain, we parked our car at the east gate parking lot, took the bus up the mountain, and my husband wanted to walk and do some aerobic exercise, but when we came down the mountain, we found out that we were at the west gate, which is far from the east gate, and it costs more than 40 yuan to take a taxi
Two. You can get a discount if you scan the QR code to buy tickets at the entrance of the scenic spot, and you can get a further 20 yuan discount if you pay with a CCB card
Three. It's best to come when the weather is good, you can overlook Jinling City from Niushou Mountain when the visibility is high
Four. There are five floors in the Buddha's Palace, you must visit the palace from the first floor and then go downstairs from the inside, if you go downstairs from the outside, you can't find the entrance, we went around several times
Five. The Buddha's Palace is a deep pit building, where the Buddha's relics are enshrined for a long time, it is 220 meters long, 160 meters wide, and 89.3 meters high in total, with a single building area of about 136,000 square meters. Its external space is divided into three parts: the large dome, the small dome, and the Buddha's cliff; the internal space has nine floors, three above ground and six underground, consisting of the Zen landscape, the relic hall, and the relic palace. There is only one piece of Sakyamuni's skull relic in the world, you can worship Buddha and take pictures as needed
It's worth the trip, 'A Niushou Mountain, half of the history of Jinling'!
I drove more than 300 kilometers to Nanjing.
Niushou Mountain is quite large, it is recommended to make a strategy in advance.

🚇Transportation: Take Metro Line 1 from Nanjing South Station to Tianlong Temple Station Exit 2,
transfer to Bus 755 or 712 directly to the east gate of the scenic area.
🚌It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the east gate of the scenic area to the Buddha's Top Palace, all the way up.
It is recommended to take the scenic bus (round trip 20/person), which can save some energy to climb the Buddha's Top Tower. The last scenic bus down the mountain departs at 18:00 every day.

Life advice, visit these places before leaving Nanjing
Once it's autumn, Nanjing becomes Jinling~
You should visit Nanjing in autumn, to see the unique romance and deep feelings of the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties in the misty Qinhuai River. Here's a citywalk checklist for autumn in Nanjing, come and note it down~
Day1: Laomendong—Confucius Temple—Qinhuai River
Day2: Dabao'en Temple—Painter's Village
Day3: Yaxi Slow Town—Gaochun Old Street
Laomendong
Named after its location east of Nanjing's city gate 'Zhonghua Gate', Laomendong is characterized by its grey bricks and black tiles. Not only can you find memories of the city from over 600 years ago, you can also taste a variety of special snacks~
Confucius Temple
As a top attraction in Nanjing, Confucius Temple has a strong atmosphere of life. Many shops sell Nanjing's special souvenirs, and if you're interested, you can also experience the human-powered rickshaw here.
Qinhuai River
You must come and see the night view of Nanjing's Qinhuai River. When the lanterns on the boats light up, you will understand the romance of 'Ten Miles of Qinhuai, a dream of Jinling'.
Dabao'en Temple
Among the '480 temples of the Southern Dynasties, how many towers in the misty rain', the 480 temples refer to Dabao'en Temple. Its reconstruction design is visually different from traditional Buddhist temples, not only incorporating many modern elements, but also allowing you to feel the shock of the fusion of modern architecture and Chinese classical aesthetics~
Painter's Village
In Liuhe, Nanjing, there is a lesser-known check-in spot—Painter's Village. The walls of the entire village are covered with various paintings, and even the architectural design of the village is enclosed in a circle, resembling a birdcage, which is very interesting.
Gaochun Old Street
If you don't want to experience the crowded city of Nanjing, you might as well go to Gaochun Old Street. Unlike other commercialized ancient towns, it is more simple and natural. The main street is full of various homemade dried geese, rice wine, shrimp sauce, which have a unique flavor.
Yaxi Slow Town
To avoid the crowd, you can also go to the nearby Yaxi Slow Town. As the first international slow city in China, it not only has tea fields, lawns, and farmland, but also rainbow slides, treetop walks, glass plank roads and other amusement facilities. You won't feel bored spending a whole day here~
Food recommendations: Li Ji Halal Restaurant (beef pot stickers), Master Zuo's Plum Cake, Lotus Lake Cake Shop, Xiao Pan's Duck Blood Vermicelli, Chicken Crow Soup Dumplings, etc.
Accommodation recommendations: It is recommended to stay near Xinjiekou/Confucius Temple/Laomendong, it is very convenient to walk around, recommended Republic of China Red Mansion, Laomendong Manxin Mansion, etc.
