Independence Square

This is the site of Sri Lanka's independence ceremony on February 4, 1948, to commemorate Sri Lanka's independence from British colonial rule. The memorial hall is surrounded by no walls, airy and bright, suitable for the tropical climate of South Asia.

The Independence Memorial Hall in the center of the square was built to mimic the hall where the royal family received pilgrims during the Kandy Dynasty, and it is easy to take deep photos in the memorial hall. Surrounded by 60 stone lions symbolizing the Sinhalese, each is said to represent a king, with a statue of Sri Lanka's founding prime minister on the back.

This is a porch commemorating Sri Lanka's independence. The ancient building here, surrounded by gardens, is a great place to take pictures. In front of the monument is a statue of the city's first prime minister. Recently, there were religious events and annual National Day celebrations. The Independence Memorial is also here. It is one of the best places I can find in Colombo to enjoy a quiet night. At the same time, it is a leisure park with flat lawns, food stalls and plenty of exercise and relaxation rooms.

It was built one year earlier than the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a symbol of Sri Lanka's independence. Each stone pillar in the memorial hall is carved with exquisite murals on every side, and they are different. And it is also a popular place to take wedding photos. On that day, many couples were seen taking pictures here, dressed in grand festival clothes.

The Independence Memorial is in the center of Independence Square. In front of it is a statue of the founding Prime Minister, Sennayak. Behind it is facing the Little White House, surrounded by lion arches. It is said that it was modeled on the hall where the royal family received the visitors during the Kantian Dynasty, and we saw a sandalwood structure in the temple's supporting hall, almost exactly the same, only to reduce the proportion. The white-bottomed black-gold elephant decorative roof is supported by many stone pillars. The whole building has no wall. In the hot Sri Lanka, it creates a cool and peaceful place in the natural environment, so many citizens rest there.

Independence Square - Colombo's iconic cultural square, is also Sri Lanka's 4 February 1948 Independence Ceremony held. It's a building with Kantian culture. There are 60 stone lions, representing 60 kings. The lion is the representative of the king in Kanti culture. It also symbolizes courage and strength. The national flag of Sri Lanka has a lion pattern.
