One of the best museum exhibits I've seen, Amsterdam DNA walks you through the history of Amsterdam with some amazing interactive features. Every section you watch a new video which concentrates on the stories behind certain objects. As you move through the exhibit you realize the objects they used in the video are the ones on displayed. No longer are you just looking at things behind a glass pane, there's a story behind it that really connects you to the past. Along the way, you take a quiz to find out in the end what kind of Amsterdammer you are. Really fun and interesting. They also have rotating temporary exhibits on a variety of topics.
Even without visiting the museum you can take a wander through this vast hallway for free where immense & very impressive paintings by Dutch Masters are hung. Even if you don't visit the collection, this museum is seconds away from the hustle and bustle of the Kalverstraat and has a great cafe & huge courtyard.
One's of the most and incredible museums of Amsterdam, live the history of others folks.
very nice. it is a 20 minute walk from the apartment
Known simply as the Amsterdam Museum since 2011, this lively historical collection often gets overlooked by first-timers to the city, who are usually more wowed by its big trio of museums (the Rijks, the Stedelijk and the Van Gogh). But with more than 70,000 artifacts relating to the many aspects of Amsterdam's past, this city-center site makes for an interesting visit, and in several sections references the city's long and ongoing commitment to LGBT rights.
