Great place to stop and let the kids burn off some energy on long trips or just a fun little stop before going up the mountain or into town. It's an iconic part of any Ruapehu trip and often a popular picnic spot for families. The tables are usually taken in summer, but there is a lot of shaded areas at the back of the park if you have a picnic blanket or camp chairs. There is also a few routes to get there if you are on foot, but if you are staying at the junction end of town it can be a long walk though.
