Tiantong Temple Photos

Tiantong Temple is located at the foot of Taibai Mountain, 26 kilometers away from Ningbo. Its history can be traced back to the Jin Dynasty and is one of the famous ancient temples in Ningbo. There are not many tourists and pilgrims here, and monks are often seen walking or meditating in the temple. Even if you don't believe in Buddhism, it's a good experience to feel the religious atmosphere and breathe the fresh air. Different from other monasteries, Tiantong Temple has three mountain gates. If you go up the mountain along the tree-lined path, you will pass Fuhu Pavilion, Gushan Gate and Jingqian Pavilion in turn. You can see the Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda on the mountain from a distance. Because the temple is next to Tiantong National Forest Park, the scenery along the way is very good, and the eyes are full of green. Going further, walking through the seven stone pagodas of the Seven Pagoda Garden, you will arrive at Wangong Pond. The two ponds here were originally released ponds, and now there are many small turtles released in one pond. The four characters "Southeast Buddhist Country" are written on the wall opposite the Wangong Pond. The surrounding trees and temple buildings are very beautifully reflected in the pond water, attracting many tourists to take pictures here. There are many pigeons in the square next to them, robbing the feed thrown by tourists. Entering the temple and walking up the mountain, the main buildings on the central axis are the Buddha Hall, the Dharma Hall (Sutra Building), and the Luohan Hall. No sun, no wet roads in rainy days.” Today, the oldest buildings in the temple are the Buddha Hall and Abbot Hall rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty, which are simple and solemn. The gilded bronze statue of the pharmacist bestowed by Emperor Shunzhi is enshrined in the Dharma Hall on the west side. Not to be missed is the Arhat Hall on the north side. The stone carvings of the 18 Arhats inside are very exquisite, and the characters are naturally mature and charming. Climb to the higher Yingzhen Pavilion, where you can overlook the whole view of the temple and the surrounding mountain scenery, with a very wide field of vision. There are also many monuments around the pavilion, mostly erected by Japanese Buddhist groups and Buddhists, where many pilgrims and tourists rest, enjoy the scenery and take pictures. Go down the mountain and return to Zhaobi, the "Southeast Buddhist Country", and go left from the path beside the Zhaobi. Not far away is the Thousand Buddha Pagoda. There is a sign near the pagoda that reads "Gu Tiantong". Going down the road and walking through a relatively deserted path, you can come to Gu Tiantong in the depths of the bamboo forest. The more conventional itinerary is, after visiting Tiantong Temple in the morning, take a break at noon, continue to Tiantong National Forest Park to climb the mountain in the afternoon, and then return to Ningbo city by car.
