Downtown Orlando had modest beginnings, starting first as an occupation by Native-American Creek and Seminole tribes. European settlers arrived in 1837, adding a fort and a town that later grew into a center of citrus and cattle production. Today, the grand boutiques, malls and extravagant restaurants attract visitors from all over the world to this popular destination. Museums and entertainment venues cater to the over 20,000 residents that live here.
