Shitennoji Temple in Osaka is not a popular attraction. It is still under construction. Many people feel it will be dull when they come. In fact, there are many knowledge points here. You can see a lot of the original face of Japanese society here. Shitennoji is not very big. In fact, if it is an antique, it is the stone torii gate at the door!
As the oldest shrine in Japan, Shitenno-ji has some serious bragging rights. The grounds are rather extensive and are really quite peaceful. The view from the top of the giant pagoda is wonderful and in an afternoon walking around the complex you'll discover koi and turtle ponds and serene corners that will make you forget you're in the middle of Osaka.
Located in Tennoji Area, Shitenno-ji Temple not only provides praying place for Buddhism, but more than that, it’s one of prominent historic building in Japan. It’s officially stated as the oldest Buddhist temple in entire country. Aside of few reconstructions issue, the temple still worth visiting especially the beautiful garden and themed exhibitions. Shitenno-ji Temple is also notable for its quaint five stories pagoda. In addition, it’s said that on the 21st and 22nd day of each month, the temple commission holds a flea market which provides mostly the temple’s souvenirs.
Best for religious & spiritual people. You get to see how local people pray!
Just one of many temples on my life list.
