Photos of Norman Palace

The Norman Palace was built in the 11th century, a simple palace built by the Normans on the ruins of ancient Carthage and ancient Rome, and was later turned into an official residence by successive Sicilian rulers. The Palatine Chapel on the second floor of the Royal Palace was built in 1130. It belongs to the Byzantine style, with stained glass inlaid with gold leaves. The whole church is resplendent and depicts a picture of biblical stories. These elements are rare in Italy. The wooden niches in the ceiling are masterpieces of beehive carving.
