One of Melbourne's loveliest - and most popular - beaches. Very accessible from Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station (the train line runs all the way down to Frankston, and another line goes beyond that). Off shore is part of the HMVS Cerberus, sunk as a breakwater in 1924 but currently deemed ‘unstable’ and in need of preserving. Here, unlike some other quieter spots, they sell fish and chips and ice cream if you can’t get through a couple of hours without eating.

This is one of my favourite spots in the Bay of Melbourne, located around 20km south east of the city in the suburb of Black Rock. It's a charming little beach which gets busy at weekends but is mercifully quiet midweek. Also popular with locals at sunset time, often combined with fish and chips al fresco from the nearby Cerebrus (see separate entry).
Half Moon Bay is a very suitable place for families. There are beautiful beaches and the water is relatively shallow. You can surf or swim in shallow water. Walking on the pier is also very pleasant, but please do not dive into the pier because the water there is too shallow. There is a yacht club, a lifesaving club, a fish and chip shop, a pier, and of course an ancient gatekeeper statue with a breath of history. You can also take a walk on the bush trail, the scenery is very beautiful
The weather in Melbourne in early autumn was very good. We went to the Black Rocks in Half Moon Bay because we thought it would be a different place and worth exploring. Wow, we marveled at the beauty around the cliff and the depth of water suitable for young children. We have a four-year-old and six-year-old kids who like to play in the water. It’s not too far from the shore. Then we walked along the beach to the rock pool. They saw a bunch of starfish, a few small ones, one Extra large. Looking at their laughter and the excitement on their faces, I felt that they had had a beautiful and vivid day. Going forward, you will see many good restaurants and cafes.
