Another famous site in Arles is the ancient theater, which was built at the end of the first century BC. The scale of the ancient theater, based on the only remaining towering pillars behind, can imagine the grandeur of the year.
The ancient theater is a historical site. I would like to think of a large structure for a long time. The theater is an open-air theater with a circle of fences and seats.
[Scenery] very monotonous
[Fun] Not very meaningful
[Price ratio] not high
After the end of Roman rule, the opera house was abandoned. The people gathered stones from the opera house, built houses and monasteries, and suffered serious damage. Today, the ancient Roman opera house only has stairs and some stone pillars. The marble stone pillars are the only remaining two complete stone pillars of the original Roman Opera House, and the terrace seats have been reduced from 10,000 to 2,000 at first. In the 19th century, the government carried out restoration work and displayed the excavated stone pillars and piers together. What was found at the time were all remaining fragments, but now it looks like it was restored.
At that time, the building of the opera house was a rectangle with walls on three sides, more than 70 pillars, and a ceiling on it, which was inclined downward to ensure sound pickup.
The theater in the ancient Roman era, the building thousands of years ago, is very spectacular, and it is still in use, which is quite remarkable. The theater is fenced and requires a fee to enter. We took pictures outside. The ticket office is in a small house on the street. It seems that very few people buy tickets and foreigners are also watching outside. The theater is not far from the ancient arena. You can see the arena within a few minutes' walk.
This theater still has practical functions to this day, and concerts are often held here. Although it is already in ruins, the two towering stone pillars in the center of the ruins show the magnificence and scale of the time.
