Living a little ways up the Ala Wai Cannal from the Ala Wai Harbor, I am somewhat ashamed to have to give this location a two star review. It's certainly picturesque, and there is lots of cool stuff going on around it, but the facility, and the way it is managed make this area a tough to recommend place to stroll around in. Maybe it's the central location of the harbor itself, or maybe it has something to do with the waste run-off that flows into the ocean here from the Ala Wai Canal and it's tributaries (a fact you would be hard pressed to notice unless you take a close look or smell of the canal itself) but this area is just too crowded. Unfortunately, much of these crowds are made up of strung out drug dealers and users, a fact that angers paying users of the docks and keeps away most visitors. Unless you are heading over for a surf, or have a friend with a boat, don't worry too much if you miss touring this waterfront facility.
