Known simply as the Amsterdam Museum since 2011, this lively historical collection often gets overlooked by first-timers to the city, who are usually more wowed by its big trio of museums (the Rijks, the Stedelijk and the Van Gogh). But with more than 70,000 artifacts relating to the many aspects of Amsterdam's past, this city-center site makes for an interesting visit, and in several sections references the city's long and ongoing commitment to LGBT rights.
