The cathedral, next to the papal palace, is rebuilt in the middle of the 12th century and is the oldest religious building in Avignon. On the top of the bell tower of the cathedral, there is a huge statue of the Virgin, which is golden and glowing in the sun. In front of the main entrance of the church, a statue of the crucifixion of Jesus stands, and the best place to watch the Virgin project is the top floor of the tower of the papal palace.
